Should i try to get UFB or will it be too hard?

Been an Orcon customer for years.
We have a Chorus Fibre running through the front of our Rural property in the Waikato. Its one of two feeds to our local exchange where our adsl comes from back up the road on copper.

Met a chorus guy on the road ouside recently (he was inspecting and signing off a pole replacement) and he implied that chorus may well look at a UFB connection if there were spare dark strands in the fibre. He also implied it would fit in Chorus's "currently "free" installs".

As this is well outside the "normal" i wonder if it will be put in the too unusual basket?

You might be able to connect, but it'd be many thousands of dollars a month.

For a rural property that won't be UFB and will cost hundreds of dollars per month and be thousands most likely for the install. Waikato isn't covered by Chorus for UFB btw. Sounds like the Chorus guy had no idea.

Is that tool for existing Orcon customers only? Or broken?
It doesn't find my address.

If there was spare fibre a connection may well be possible - but you'll be paying P2P connection costs ($500+ per month for a connection) and probably a few thousand minimum for an install.

Interesting set of replies so far.

Maybe the thread should move to Chorus and not Orcon.
With fibre to home /work premises we could use it as a backup centre for our racks in Albany :)

You can also check your address to see when you will be getting UFB at http://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/getting-connected/address-finder I put mine in and we wont be getting it until 2016, which doesnt surprise me as in our area here in New Plymouth we were one of the last to get ADL2+ which we only got in September last year.

Weird, put my address in and it said I was outside the coverage zone altogether, which I know isn't true.

I use chorus.co.nz/maps - has most of the coverage down.

Don't use http://www.ultrafastfibre.co.nz/getting-connected/address-finder, it doesn't know sh#t. Clearly using http://www.chorus.co.nz/maps is the way to go.
