Telecom branded S3 on 2D - should there be any issues?

Smiths City is selling the D3 (Telecom branded) for $699. I don't think there should be any issues with it on 2D but just wanted to check. Would it have a Telecom specific ROM or just the Telecom apps?

I don't really want to flash another ROM if I can help it.

Indeed, you might notice reduced data speeds / battery life issues.

But - what's stopping you from giving Telecom a chance? Their Big Value Pack is pretty optimal, so are their Open Smartphone plans. If you don't like it you can always bring your number back but I'm sure you won't end up doing that ;) else grab a $5 sim and give it a go with the number preloaded.

the rom base should be the same

the modem will be a telecom specific modem

but it should work fine with 2D out of the box?

someone correct me

(note I have an australian galaxy s2 and i switch between voda 2d and telecom according to their prepaid plans and have no real problems)

Rats. I don't want to switch to Telecom since my wife is on 2D monthly $29 and gets 160 minutes while the $19 Telecom pack is only 60 minutes and you can't add minutes to it.

Guess I could do Skinny and $4/week for 60 minutes/week and then add $4/week for 200MB. That's about $32/month or a bit more than she pays now for more data and minutes.

The deal comes with a SIM so perhaps it can't hurt?

Lol there is no 2d/vf version is there? I would have thought one or the other! At least the buyer customer is satisfied and happy that's all that matters

Rats. I don't want to switch to Telecom since my wife is on 2D monthly $29 and gets 160 minutes while the $19 Telecom pack is only 60 minutes and you can't add minutes to it.

You can buy two $19 packs and they give you 2x 60 = 120 minutes.

Also, if you constantly make calls for more than one minute. Consider Telecom's open term smartphone plans because they are billed by second after the first minute.

So, if you are on prepaid you have 60 mins of talk time. If you usually do 90 sec calls, that 60 mins will only last for 60 / 2 = 30 calls.

But if you are on an open term plan and assume you have 60 mins (actually more), if will last for 60 / 1.5 = 40 calls.

That could be better value

That's similar to the 2D $29 plan except the 2D plan has carryover minutes and data.

The only issues i've noticed with the Telecom rom on these is that interestingly, telecom has a larger MMS size and actually this is hard coded into the standard MMS app, it is easily worked around as you can just download another SMS & MMS app from the market like Handcent that you can change the max message size on.

Not sure if 2degrees has upgraded their MMS gateway pretty sure max message size is still 300kb where telecoms is 600kb.

It's funny thinking i've actually called the Telecom helpdesk and asked them to give me their max message size for MMS and the answers I got where like "whatever you set it to".

It was version not branded Telecom. Still in the box so not sure how it will work.

hey John, you wouldn't be able to tell me what sorts of handsets would have access to your 3g extended (900mhz?) would you? i was under the impression all android handsets had this functionality but apparently its only certain models?
