Just a question out of curiosity.  The Fritzbox - is that just a router for fiber optic?  Could one just use their old ADSL modem/router?

Not at all, it's a full ADSL / VDSL modem too.

You can use your own.
The fritzbox is a VDSL2/ADSL2 modem/router.

Thanks - we signed up for fiber, yet to be installed, see if we can change, you know - no contracts attached. But in saying that not too it's not too bad either.  Oh we might just keep them - it gives us VOIP.  :D

If you're going to buy your own router for fibre services you'll need to ensure it's compatible - ie supports 802.1q tagging on the WAN interface or if your ISP will configure the crcuit to allow untagged traffic.
