So I signed up for UFB(30/10) in March and understood that it may take a while to get the whole consent thing done as I am down a shared driveway with 1 other house.

2+ months later with many calls to the helpdesk, there is still no update on where things are at.
I talked to the neighbour and for them to give their consent they want to know what chorus is going to do to deliver the service. Obviously they wouldn't be happy if chorus intended to dig up the driveway etc.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I thought for now they werent installing fibre on shared properties because of this reason?
They hadn't had a process finalised yet so they just avoid it all together.

Not sure if this has changed but I doubt it has. And even if you get the neighbours on board, I dont Chorus will still do it.

They can take quite a while. I had one that was ordered in August last year that wasn't completed until the end of April.

We are in a similar situation, except there are two businesses in one building. Nothing to dig up as we face hard onto the street. The application just seems to go into a Chorus black hole.

Chorus seem to outsource the process to another company who handles it. It took 6 months for one connection I have got in a body corp situation.

Hi mate,

i have been through this process myself in albany, auckland

live on shared driveway with bodycorp and 6 neighbours.

signed up to vodafone fibre trial mid october 2012 and the consent process started.

all neighbours had to give consent by emailing chorus

body corp gave consent by emailing chorus

council had to give consent to dig in our shared driveway - that took about a month.

subcontractors (cablenet earthworks) dug the trenches to all houses but only ran fiber up to my house. that was about 20th december

mid jan subcontractors (visionstream) connected the fiber cable to the FAT (box in the ground that the cable connects to.

mid feb (cablenet tech's) installed the fiber ont and connected to router. also played around with the fiber cabinet on the street.

should of been ready to go then but the exchange was having issues with one of the transfer boxes so only when they found out i couldnt connect to fiber they ordered a new one... that took about a month to install.

10th april i was connected to the service.

so it took from mid oct 2012 to mid apr 2013 to be connected.

i think because my experience was so bad I still understand why vodafone are in trial stage- but kudos to there customer service- very happy with them - they were on the phone to me every step of the way.

also i think this has been a little more streamlined since i had my install done.

but just keep at it and it will be done eventually and you will have up to 100/50 whenever you need to d/l some torrents super quick.

I'm in a similar position. Called up and ordered UFB for our new house in mid may (with a note that no physical changes were to be made before 24th May as that was our settlement date). Good news was that 2 days ago someone from Chorus came to our house to look at how to run the cable and discovered that there was some conduit that could be used to run the cable so he was going to schedule the job to be installed. Not sure what timeframe that will be (my Wife is less than impressed that we don't have internet yet, but, I understand that these things take time).

They say that they have to get consent from the neighbours, however, on our title there is a note along the lines of
"Appurtenant hereto is a right of way and sewage & water drainage, gas, electricity, telephone and water supply rights specified in Easement Certificate..."
I'm not sure that changes anything from a getting consent from the neighbours point of view. It may be that this overrides the need for consent from the neighbours as there is already consent in the title? Having said that, our title (and I assume the neighbours) has something like this

"Subject to telecommunications rights (in gross) over part marked A on DP nnnnn in favour of Telecom Wellington Limited"

As it's no longer Telecom Wellington Limited....

I wonder how their shareholders feel about owning shares in a company that has to be hassled into providing a timely service. Surely they are not making any money from the UFB until they have customers using it?

My belief is that the nz govt has invested billions of dollars to build this network for "new zealanders"

so the shareholders of isp's, chorus dont need a return on the investment because the money came from the govt, not the shareholders.

i also believe because my service is of better quality/speed i expect to pay a small 5-10% increase on service charges.

Just a heads up, in our area (Tauranga), there is an approximate 2 month wait list on *ALL* installs. As of a few weeks ago, if we submit a ROW order, it will rejected straight away.

They won't be doing ROWs again until the backlog clears.

Typical, just after posting this Chorus turn up and fed the fibre to the house by pulling it through with the old copper. Today VisionStream did the internal install and used the hybrid (fibre + copper) cable. In total the installation took about 4 hours.

Yep, everything worked straight away. The speed increased throughout the day untill it hit its cap of 30/10. Just waiting for our phone number to be ported over. Can make outbound calls but incoming calls go nowhere.
