Anyone know if 2D offer an official/approved way to have a second duplicate sim for a pay-monthly account?

I am thinking of getting a Note 3 but know there will be times when it will be too big to carry. So thinking of retaining my old small phone and using that when necessary. It would be handy to have a duplicate to avoid all the sim-swapping. I would not expect to have both switched on at once...

Not possible.

(Well technically it is possible to clone a card but you can't get 2 SIMs on the same account as a product).

You can actually. It was popular back in the day when cars had built in car phones and you wanted the same number as your mobile handset. But not very popular any more and not sure if any operators here ever offered it.

That was not a duplicate SIM but another IMSI attached to the MSISDN on the HLR profile

True, of course the SIMs are unique, not duplicates. But same phone number, same account, which is what the OP wanted.

With the ever increasing proliferation of devices I wonder if its something they might introduce in the future, once the network is suitably modified to handle it. Would be very handy...

Simple. Just set your primary number in your Note 3 to divert immediately when unreachable to a secondary number which is in your small portable handset. When you aren't carrying the note, switch it off.

Back when I was with Vodafone and had my old original contract SIM from 1996, I cloned it to a couple of "SuperSIM 16 in 1 cards" and used them in two phones, but never both at once. I also cloned my Vodafone Prepay card to the same SuperSIMs and could switch between the two numbers at will in order to get the best per minute call rates. When Vodafone introduced the newer "SIM2" cards, this was no longer possible, and I don't believe any Telecom or 2D cards have been able to be cloned in this way as they use better security.

Thankfully, once 2Degrees introduced true competition in the market, there wasn't a need to play musical SIMs any more.

Thanks. Sure, that would work, just not as seamless as doing it all under one account. Would have to get credit on both, you would be calling people from two different numbers that might confuse them etc. etc.

Two different number's. And yes carphone duo is still in use today.

For now you may have to put up with swapping the SIM over, then, unfortunately.
