I'm guessing 2 Degrees or whoever you are connected to?

Reason I'm asking is that I'm on contract and chances are I will be taking a break at one of the tax payer funded holiday camps shortly. So once I stop paying my bill each month I presume the number is recycled and the debt collectors chase me once I return? What sort of time period before the number is taken over?

Numbers go into quarantine for at least 6 months after termination, but they don't necessarily go straight back into use.

If it is a ported number (e.g 021 on 2degrees) the number will be eventually released back to the Original provider.

Just call 200 and we can move you to Prepay from the start of your next billing cycle then you just need to top up once a year.

Not sure if you understand what I'm saying, I'm on contract with 15 months left to run. So are you saying move the number to prepay and then a new number is assigned to the contract?

You could port the number to another carrier (on prepaid). This would mean you kept the number (Providing you meet their topup requirements to keep it alive).

This would cancel your current contract and the carrier would send you a bill for whatever early termination charges you were liable for according to the terms of that contract.

gave me a giggle.

How long will yo be staying as a guest of her majesty?

I think you can smuggle in a phone if you really want to.  Just be sure to bag it up first!

Best case 18 months which means you do 9 (well best best case would be home detention but I think that unlikely). Worst case I think 3 years which means 12 or 24 months depending on the parole board.

As for smuggling it's a Galaxy S3 and I think it may be a bit on the large side.

It is easier to get your lawyer to smuggle it in for you. :)

Said camps often have jammers anyway. Probably not with the (literal) pain required.
