If I live in in area with UBA (so I can get Genius), then can I still get a service through Orcon that has a POTS phone as well as broadband (ADSL2)?

Or are you forced to go genius if you can receive it?

You would need to pay additionally for the POTS line - the reason is with Genius Orcon doesn't rent the POTS line component, only the DSL component so if you want the POTS service my understanding is that you could have it but at an additional charge - but you would need to call our sales line to confirm what that charge would be.

Thanks for that.

Technically though, assuming I wanted to pay for that extra part, would there be any need for there to be a change at the cabinet, or could it all be done remotely? The reason I ask is that I wouldn't want some sort of downtime or alternatively some chance that they come out and say "oh sorry, there are no spare ports so you're on a waiting list now".

This is in order to consolidate my phone and broadband provider into one (Orcon) without having to get Genius and without having to risk losing my port at the cabinet (which has happened before).

The POTS line will have been RQ'd (so we don't pay rental for it, hence can pass on the lower Genius price for voice. That means in all likelihood the POTS line may need jumping onto the POTS port in the exchange/cabinet. There shouldn't be any downtime of any significance to your broadband, nor should it result in you going onto port-waiter status.

Give the sales team a call on 0800-JOINUS and I'm sure they will sort out your requirements.
