Blurtie:
What's the hold music like?
Ok you are nasty. It's a friend's new broadband connection waiting for someone to activate it. I wish I hadn't recommended Slingshot now...
38 minutes now. I'm just going to see how ling it takes to get a human at the other end.
im not sure what your point is? its reasonably common these days to have a long hold time, and compared to others 29 mins is actually a short time.
there could be any number of reasons why its so long
That is the very reason I have never recommended Slingshot. I see nothing has changed (I had bad experiences trying to contact them back when I was a mobile tech 8 years ago).
What needs activating? I have never heard of having to call the ISP to get your connection going. I thought that was all done when the connection was setup/provisioned by Chorus (or whoever the lines company is).
richms:
The fact that others are worse sometimes doesnt make over half an hour waiting to be any more acceptable.
no it doesn't but it seems to be standard for the large players these days
MadEngineer: You get the wait times you pay for.
This is ultimately it at the end of the day. It's no different to many other industries where people have a choice between providers and pricing.
I had no end of trouble with Slingshot when I first moved to them. Took them months to transfer a VOIP number - and in the mean time I had no phone! Every person I spoke to would give me a different reason.
In the end, instead of taking any responsibility (Or giving an apology for atrocious support) I was given 2 months free VDSL. They fobbed me off instead of trying to figure out where they went wrong and how they could do things differently in the future.
Am now with Bigpipe and so far have found them to be outstanding....

I hope you're not still waiting...

Legends say that @Indio's ghost is still on hold, listening to the otherworldly hold music for all eternity.
His ghostly hands still grip the handset which he will forever hold onto.

Is it? Maybe for voda and slingshot but most providers it's far better

spark slingshot and vodafone have a large holding in the broadband market and they all have long wait times. for a lot of smaller providers its likely to be better.
it also depends on when you ring, is there a major outage and everyone is rining? is it lunchtime, end of work etc they all contribute to when call times could be longer

Haha..took exactly 50 minutes 12 seconds to get a human at the other end. And I've recommended to my friend that she cancel her order and go with Spark, and she still has not got her service activated.
