Until 23 May, nPerf offered a 1 Gb/s MyRepublic server in Auckland for speed tests (as the only NZ option).

I found this a useful alternative to OOKLA, with more detailed statistics and better graphics.

As of that afternoon, My Republic / Auckland is no longer on the server selection menu - Sydney is now the nearest nPerf server.  frown

Does anybody know what happened?

Will nPerf come back to NZ?

Just had a look. Speed to Sydney same as MR (94/21). Ping higher (35Ms), of course.

UPDATE

The My Republic Auckland server is back on nPerf as of today.

It is only offered with the old version 1 nPerf - not with the new beta Version 2, for some reason.

Still the only available NZ nPerf server.

Seems to be functioning exactly as before - I get similar stats on my HFC connection to what I got before 24 May.

EDIT :  Minutes after posting this, I got this email from nPerf about Version 2 :

<snip>

Check out what is new:

- Entirely coded in HTML5/JS = no more need for Flash!
- Uses secure HTTPS connections
- More fluid animations thanks to WebGL

What differentiates us from speedtest.net:

- Works on all browsers (Firefox, Chrome/Chromium, IE/Edge, Safari, Opera, Vivaldi, Maxthon...)
- Using HTTPS makes the test invisible to antivirus/firewall
- Results are more trustworthy, even for very high speed broadband connections
- More detailed results with precise curves
- Complete transparency on the servers used
- 100% compatible with IPv6
- No ad banners!
