Hello,

Needing some help/advice please

Couple of the kids dont have any pay monthly packs, just top up when needed. My wife and i do have pay monthly packs.

Heading over to Australia this coming Monday with the family. Day or so in Sydney then on a cruise for a while then another day or so in Sydney. All up gone for week and a half.

Can we still use our phones as we normally do ie text, check emails, post to social media etc? Or do we have to get special overseas packs? Or get a cheap sim card over in Australia?

Any help much appreciated

Just buy the $15 500mb roaming pack and then pay the 10c min/text roaming charge, add in hotel and free wifi and you should be fine

Or look at Optus $2/day sims for everybody

I am in same situation to sort out roaming for Wife who heads off tomorrow . The 2 degrees website and apps are shocking to use, I have spent a good 60+ mins and trying to contact next to useless.

Looks like 2degrees do not have their add on packs anymore..so need to get a big AU data plan for the Ipad and hotspot it to minimize AU roaming on phone. 10c Mb is a bit steep.

After this trip may look at shifting her off 2 degrees......although in NZ the ability to share her data plan with the ipad is nice.

Everything you need should be on (or accessible from) this page. I usually buy the $15 500MB Aussie Data pack. Will be doing the same again for the next cruise so I have data when close to land or visiting ports. Wifi access prices on board the ship are more than excessive, so it's just not an option (neither is roaming onto their cell networks, where available).

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

I've used the Optus $2 a day SIM before, and it was great because at the time I was needing a fair chunk of data and making a number of local calls. If you don't want everyone to get a new local Aussie number and all you need is a little data then the Aussie data packs from 2Degrees should be enough for the odd Facebook update and checking email. Of course you cannot receive text messages sent to your NZ numbers if you use Aussie SIMs, so you'll need to evaluate your requirements based on which phone numbers you'll want on your phones.

Is the cruise just in/around Aussie?

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

$10 is just to buy the SIM card on that deal - you have to sign up for a plan on top of that.

$10 buys you 6GB, as Ive recently done this, all calls are inside australia, but its a better deal for data.

Keep in mind the Aussie SIM option will really only be any good to you when you're in Aussie, but of course the Aussie data packs on 2Degrees will be the same. I just put our phones in the safe when we're at sea. Better for relaxing!
