Hey everyone,

I have fiber 200/20 and I was on 100/20. The fiber box is not far from my place at all so my question is why am I getting speeds only up to 105Mbps but mainly 90.44Mbps on my xbox when the first day I was changed over I was getting 185Mbps? Why has it slowed down?

1) Dont test on wifi

2) Its an xbox, even if you played 4k movies, it wouldn't use more than 40mbit of traffic. Its a gaming device, it probably only uses 1mbit/sec while you are gaming.

3) Test from a PC, with an Ethernet cable plugged directly into the router. If its still a problem then people here will assist. If its not, then well, the problem will probably be the WiFi.

1) Do you think that I'm that stupid? I have it on a cat 7 cable, as well as my computer. Just cause I said that the it was done off my xbox, dont assume that its on a wireless connection.

2) No really??? It's an xbox but microsoft has lifted that restriction, and if it only goes at 40Mbps, then why was it going 185Mbps for the first few hours of my 200/20 connection and why is my mates xbox gets 156 off wifi hmmm?

3) I'm not stupid, and I have done all that, duh. If there is anyone here that has more better advice and maybe can help decently instead of assuming things, then please help with this.

If you provide detailed info in your first post then people responding won't need to assume things.

And judging by your immature response, you might not get the help you are wanting.

@darylblake said test from a pc, you said you did that, so why not post the results?

Reset the router? Start at the bottom, it's basic troubleshooting.

Calm down - you're pretty unlikely to get much help from people if you react that way to their suggestions.

Given you said that

and that UFB is not affected by distance, it's a pretty reasonable assumption for @darylblake to make that you are referring to a WiFi connection.

Perhaps include a little more detail such as the type of router you are using, how your network is configured, how you are testing that throughout, and what troubleshooting you have already done.

Wow. Over-react much? You barely listed any relevant testing info in the first post so the response you got was completely reasonable.

The people with "better advice" will only "help decently" if people are reasonable. And your response doesn't qualify.

Its a reasonable assumption to make. How did your tests go with a PC? Are you managing to obtain 200mbit on the download side? I would probably also try a cat5 or cat6 cable.

Come on don't be silly. If your xbox is downloading updates then it could potentially pull up to the line rate, that will only be during a download of a patch or a game. Having an extra 100Mbps will not give you any additional benefits when it comes to gaming. It will not reduce latency, and games don't require that much throughput.

I never said you were stupid. However from the small amount of information you provided we need to rule out the basics. These being:
a) You have tested on a cable, not on wifi,
b) You have tested from another computer, and if you still have the same issue, you should try changing the cable.
c) You have ensured that your router supports 1gbps connections and that your ONT is lit at 1gbps.

Once you have tested all of this, you will be a lot closer to diagnosing if the problem is at your end, or with your ISP.

Real question. So here are the answers:

Q1: Its a reasonable assumption to make. How did your tests go with a PC? Are you managing to obtain 200mbit on the download side? I would probably also try a cat5 or cat6 cable.

Testing on the PC sucks, it was 17mbps (doesn't help that my PC is a piece of crap though, that I can admit), on my mobile 49Mbps (reasonable for a phone though). Yeah I tried it with a CAT5e and I have a cat 6 cable connected to the computer now from the rcon router. I changed the cat 7 cable to go into the ONT to the router. Speed on the xbox and phones have improved a bit, and the latency on my xbox has dropped a bit too. I used my cable tester as well to test for any faults in the cat 7 and 6 and 5e cables, no faults.

I thought that too, but since I'm mainly playing games that require the net, for example need for speed. I have noticed a huge charge from VDSL to fiber, and my latency is now 192 instead of 298.

How I normally do the testing is first on the computer, then xbox, (this is because my PC cannot go wifi, and well I refuse to put my xbox on wireless.) Even have turned the wireless off and tried it that way, no improvements (the phones though I decided to do today, normally I dont go by that really).

b) You have tested from another computer, and if you still have the same issue, you should try changing the cable.

Yes, had my mate bring his laptop around and still the same speed on his, off cable and on.

c) You have ensured that your router supports 1gbps connections and that your ONT is lit at 1gbps.

I don't see an 1gig on the ONT, just Power, PON, LAN 1 to 4 and TEL 1 to 2, but UFB told me when they are installing it that it can handle 1Gbps. The router that i have from Orcon its new and only had this new one for 4 months approx (had to get it replaced cause the old one stuffed out). On the bottom of this router is says that its a ADSL/VDSL Gigabit wireless router. Although I have made changes to the router for power saving things though. I'll post a pix in a moment of the power settings.

where did you buy your cat7 cable from? and can any of your devices actually use the bandwidth it provides (doubt it)

on the 18th, cause when my fiber was doing it took out my landline with it and when I turned on family filter, that wiped out my landline again, so I had to reset my router using a pin 5 times cause Oricon's CSR's where not listening at first.
