I have been trying to find a solution to my Genius Black modem giving LAN access on the wifi.  This has happened with every client device I have tried.  WAN access is fine but I can't see any setting in the modem UI to enable access to the LAN.

Anyone come across this with a solution?

Yes, certainly seen this. Seems it is a "feature". Still a problem with the NP4V as well.

How's your network set up?  Is it just the Genius and no other devices on the LAN?

Network has a number of static IP devices on it, wireless AP's and DHCP devices.  DHCP range supplied by the Genius.  So the Genius question is more a nicety but it would be good to have it as a backup AP.

MAC learning between Ethernet and Wi-Fi can be problematic on these.  So when your device roams from the built in wi-fi to an Ethernet attached AP, the routing engine doesn't always pick up the new location for the MAC address.

If you're going to go with external APs, put all the APs on ethernet and disable the built in wi-fi, or set up the additional APs as NAT with their own IP range and DHCP.

OK thanks. That all makes sense. Will stick with disabling the wlan on the Genius.
