Hi all,

I have a static IP with my 2degrees fibre connection. Yesterday I e-mailed them:

The  DNS records for my static IP is broken. Can this please be fixed?

Thanks.

# host 203.86.205.xxx
xxx.205.86.203.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer 203.86.205.xxx.static.snap.net.nz.
# host 203.86.205.xxx.static.snap.net.nz
Host 203.86.205.xxx.static.snap.net.nz not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

They replied by telling me that I needed to call them. I did this, and as expected the CSR told me that "2 degrees don't host any domains for you" and they could not help. Can someone point me the correct direction to get the correct DNS record (203.86.205.xxx.static.snap.net.nz) added to their DNS?

Thanks.

reverse DNS doesn't resolve for my static ip either, this happened to me a few years ago when on trust power fibre - eventually they added my own domain name into their DNS system for reverse DNS - not sure if 2D will offer you that type of service.

2Degrees/Snap are happy to host reverse lookups (PTR) for static IPv4s (well they did one for me many years ago).  They actually wanted to host the one record, rather than delegate it to my DNS servers.

They also delegate the ipv6 reverse zone for the static IPv6 allocation to my DNS servers.

The CSR is probably not clear on the difference between the normal (forward) zones and the reverse in-addr.arpa/ip6.arpa zones. Give them the oppurtunity to go and ask someone how to do it (possibly during business hours).
