Fibre became available in our street in March and I ordered the upgrade via my ISP - Orcon.

All of the paperwork went through for granting access via the shared driveway. One of the other two houses had also asked for fibre and Chorus said that they could manage the deal for both at the same time.

A month later, I observed that my connection speed had jumped from 8M to 40M. I just figured that there was less contention on the old copper circuits which was nice though I did wonder how it was that my ADSL2 connection could work so fast.

Then I got an email from Orcon to say that I had been upgraded to VDSL.

I got another email from Orcon to say that my new modem was in the post.

I assumed that was for my fibre connection. Then Chorus turned up and laid conduit up the shared driveway and, the next day, they extended that so that I had conduit laid to my front lawn.

My new modem then arrived. A VDS capable Fritzbox.

I wondered what that was for. My old ADSL2 modem is clearly VDS capable because it is working at VDSL speeds.

Then Chorus came back and ran the last leg of conduit under the lawn to the side of the house, they installed the external box and blew fibre down the conduit to wherever it goes.

The Chorus guys said that the man who does the internal part of the install will be waiting for me to receive some equipment from Orcon - he described that as 'your fibre modem' but I have not heard about that from Orcon.

So I am wondering what will be the next steps.
