My speeds are pretty much back to normal now, but I keep going over there 20GB cap, and paying $10 for 5GB is just WAY to much for me, so im afrade I will have to let Orcon go and will be switching to Slingshot.

The good things about Orcon:

I just done a bit or searching on google about my plan im on with orcon "Surfer 20 GB Broadband" which I always thought there was a early termination fee, but there isn't!! not for people who already had broadband, which i did. So thanks you for that Orcon!
They always gave me fast reliable speeds (the last month it was rather slow, but it's back to normal for me now).
I have always have great pings with them!! When playing online games, even when everyone else on Orcon had really slow internet, for some reason my ping was never affected. (even on peak times), this is on the games i play (Half Life 2: DeathMatch and Team Fortes 2)
Have only rang up once to Orcon and i think it was only about 5-10 mins waiting.

The bad things about Orcon:

The last month where they had some major International speed issues, they had there status page say everything was fine when it wast.
Would be nice to be kept a bit more in the loop as to when there are issues and a estimated time for it to be fixed..
Email support isn't the best, they take 2-3 days before they reply, even when they reply they aren't always that helpful.

Thats about all I think, i'm sure other people have had other experiences with Orcon, but mine was relatively good (if you exclude the last month).

Im sure Orcon will release a nice shinny new plan 1-2 Weeks after I have switched, with better bigger and cheaper caps and free off peak data, but thats just how it is always with me

Your on an old plan there mate (or where on)

Overage charges have changed to $1 a GB for LLue and $2 a GB on UBA. No more having to by 5GB blocks and felling ripped off if you dident use it all.

The International bandwith/equipment malfunction was a pain I would have to agree but it looks like its sorted judging by the other thread.

Nope I still have plenty of problems. I'm just not voicing them because I'm moving to Snap. I called them about a week and a half ago, lodged a support ticket and submitted all of the info they asked for and haven't heard back since. I was told there were going to be further 'upgrades' yet the problem is still as bad as it was the day it started.

Yea I know they have better overage charges now, but only for people in ADSL 2+ arias, which I am not in

and as I said before it just cost to much to stay with orcon.

Oh and I did try and switch to a new plan where it was 1GB at a time but they said it would brake our 1 year contract so we didn't do it as we get free homeline at the moment, but in the long run it will be cheaper with orcon, even when we have to pay for our homeline.

in the AKL metro area. Just moved from Orcon after ~2 yrs to Vodafone - 5GB more, cheaper and they have already unbundled our exchange. Orcon are plannign on getting to it this month. Speeds are 2x what I was getting before on Orcon (now 8-10mbps down, 750k up). Orcon's cust service had really improved over the last few months cf. VF's which is widely acknowledged to be absolute crap. ah well....finger's crossed I don;t need to talk to them. Let's wait for the first invoice......

Im having a very good experience with orcon at the moment.

Being at my parents house in Hamilton I have a connection speed of 8mbit (that is on an ADSL1 modem) and an line attenuation of 0db.

I'm therefore very happy!

Hi all,

I've bitten the bullet and signed up for LLU in the weekend. Been given a provisioning date of Friday 27/6.

Been with Orcon since 2004 and so far all has been sweet. Fixed IP no problem and no charge either.

I have to confess that i'm a bit nervous after reading some of the horror stories in other threads

Presently I have a fs/fs plan and Telecom has receintly upgraded my exchange to 2+ so connect speeds have been around 15Mbps however my download speeds only manage 6-7Mbps(local) which tends to suggest that some sort of throttling is going on somewhere. Lets hope that this will disappear after the changeover.

Will post further after the changeover.

It's been 10 days without dial tone...
However, I was able to connect to Internet since installation date.
I've contacted helpdesk several times and raised a fault ticket.

Better be fixed soon!!!

Good:
- They were excellent for 4 years up until the last couple months
- You can keep your Orcon email
- Good pings

Bad:
- Ongoing International bandwidth problems (including bad packet loss and slow speeds during peak hours) with no end in sight
- Prioritisation of plans (favouring users on their own network whilst shafting those on the older plans)
