Just received:

You know those phones - held together with sticky tape, permanently plugged in to a power cable, cracked screens.

We want these phones.

On March 15, 2degrees is switching off its 2G network. It’s time. Customers want more speed, more data, more video content and for that we need to say goodbye to 2G phones forever.

To mark the occasion, 2degrees is giving away a host of goodies, including a Samsung S9, the latest smartphone that offers Wifi Calling, only from 2degrees.

We’ll also have daily spot prizes for those customers who can show us their crustiest, nastiest 2G phones.

And while we’re taking photos of them, why not bring them and recycle them? Come in to any 2degrees store and you can drop off your old handsets for a proper disposal and help support both the environment and the community.

To enter the competition, simply take a photo of the oldest phone you can find and post it to our Facebook page or on Twitter with the hashtag #crusty2g and we’ll pick out the best each day for prizes and treats. And if you take a photo of yourself dropping off the phone at a 2degrees store you’ll get two entries to win.

Simple. Just like us.

So raid Grandma’s glove box, dig out those old phones and get snapping because on March 15, the 2G network is history.

Just so it's clear - this competition is not running on Geekzone.

but if you DO want to enter the competition hit up 2degrees on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #crusty2G and you might win a Samsung S9.

And if you can remind all the oldies you know who might have a 2G phone hanging around that they'll stop working, that would be totally awesome. Don't forget to recycle.

It's a shame the competition isn't the reverse. I have loads of 2G phones in good running condition and loads of 3G phones that have smashed screens. It seems they don't make phones as tough as they used to.

I'm going to have to stage some evidence.

I was being a little facetious. I have draw full of good 2G phones and busted 3g phones.

IMO the stereo type 2dm was trying to project onto 2G phones actually fits 3G phones better. I've never seen some many damaged phones in use or permanently connected to power supplies (power banks in peoples bags) since the advent of the Smart phone.
