I am on a 100mb connection. And get 100mb when I test to 2d in chch most times.
But 5 min ago. I checked and was getting 10mb and pretty erratic fluctuations
And I have noticed this a few times in past.

What would cause such drops in perf.. and how can you report?

Are you testing over Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Fibre is not going to provide full speed 100% of the time so you are actually worrying about nothing and sounds like you want to log a fault for a fault that does not exist

no I think with fibre you will always get the speed your paying for 100% of the time. I am going to agree with @attewell

 

restart your router if speed doesn't return log a fault.

You clearly don't have a clue then read what the OP has written gets 100MB most the time you don't even know if they are testing over Ethernet or Wi-Fi

on nperf test it was between 0 and 20. avg 10

You need to provide more information...

 

- Were you the ONLY person using the connection at the time?
- Have you also replaced the Ethernet cable between the ONT and your router?
- Have you tested this with another browser?
- What router are you using and have you ensured QoS is disabled?

 

Just because your Speedtest is showing a slowdown, it doesn't mean your connection is suffering. Speedtests are only there to provide an estimate and depending where you're testing to it can be different for each testing server.

 

Case in point - I get 900/510Mbit to Citylink Wellington on my Gigabit connection. This drops to 800/450Mbit when I hit Auckland but depending on which Speedtest server I try it can vary between 400Mbit and 900Mbit down to Auckland. Over the ditch to Australia I can get around 500Mbit on a Speedtest. I can still max out my connection on almost everything though.

google GPON, and then apply a 16 split to it, work out what that gives every connection the you will see its impossible for everyone to get full speed all the time.

If you want a guaranteed speed 24/7 expect to pay for a premium SLA to go with it.

 

If this is a home connection, it's "best effort" - no speed is guaranteed.

 

If it's dropping to 0 though, log a fault with your provider.

Only after following the advice from michaelmurfy - a little homework on your side should be done first... at the very least restart your router.

Oh no no home users can expect to get 100% of the speed they pay for cause they have their own ONT per house. it’s not like some business that share a single fibre connection accross multiple buildings.
