A family member is using the Family Filter service from Slingshot. Just recently it has started blocking legit sites, sites that were never previously blocked. It's making their internet almost unusable.

Is there anyway to change the settings to unblock these sites?

I think you should post example URL's so if anyone from Slingshot reads this thread they can actually look into it

Or just use Cisco’s Family Shield DNS.

From what I can gather the list is pretty extensive, Stuff, NZHearald, One Day are three I know of.

All those seem valid to block to make the internet family friendly.

I assume you're joking. The sites in question were all accessible a week or two ago. Something has changed recently.

You would think there'd be a way for the customer to whitelist sites like this that had been blocked. As it is now the Family Filter makes the internet almost useless for this user.

No I am not. I have seen many pictures with graphic violence on the news sites, they have a comments section etc and at least one of the daily deal sites is regularly selling adult toys.

Hi there,

This one isn't an issue we are able to replicate at our end. None of the sites you listed should be blocked and definitely isn't happening for everyone!

There is an option to log a fault through family filter directly,

here

reviewurl@familyfilter.net.nz

Alternatively, you can send through a message with your details and I can follow it up for you.

Cheers

@Technofreak Why do you think it's the Slingshot Family filter causing the issue and not something else?

The fact these sites are accessible with the filter turned off and that it happens on different browsers.

Can you add URL's to the filter yourself?

John

Edit: Do those sites work going direct using an IP address?

It's not possible to personalise your family filter service but you can submit addresses for review at the address above.
