I received in December 2018 a requested SamKnows Whitebox. I requested this to prove that regardless of previous conversations with Slingshot there provision of service was bad.  The SamKnows Whitebox shows that my internet is bad in Palmerston North with unlimited plan and Slingshot provided modem so I contacted Slingshot. This was part of there response in the third email "With Samknows we do not support this device, the graphs etc are something we do no investigate or accept as a method to raise a fault, this service is provided by a 3rd party." So they do not wish to acknowledge this information.  Thoughts anyone

What is your actual fault? And what type of connection do you have? ADSL, VDSL, UFB, etc? What other things have you already tried to find or fix the fault?

Without knowing more information, I agree with Slingshot in saying that the Samknows testing is not designed for identifying faults.

If you have been doing speedtests, have you been using wifi or an ethernet connection to your computer for testing?

Thoughts? Slingshot are completely, 100%, totally, unambiguously correct in their response. I have seen several questionable Samknows results so far that have not yet been explained (but the underlying service is perfectly fine).

While this isn't to say your service is problem free, your "proof" is completely inappropriate and I applaud Slingshot for such a clear and accurate response.

Current methodology used by Samknows is highly flawed and isn't delivering any meaningful results when it comes to real world performance. The delivery is their first results the Friday before Xmas was IMHO hiding your results so there was no real discussion around them. Right now there results aren't worth even reading as they deliver absolutely nothing meaningful and serious questions should be being asked of MBIE as to when they will deliver something that resembles what they've promised.

Without knowing anything more about your connection type and what your issues are there isn't really a lot to add to this discussion.

I'll actually dispute this. Their methodology isn't perfect, but it's FAR from highly flawed. It's a damn good attempt and the issues they have are not major or baked into the solution. They could be addressed with relatively small changes - whether they do that of course will remain to be seen.

I was very vocal about Epitiro and Truenet because both were incredibly bad - but the Samknows methodology is light years ahead of them both. One of the issues so far is that there's been a significant over-reach in the analysis of the data to date, and there are instances where the tests are measuring network impacts of decisions on networks external to the ISPs. Both can be fixed and I genuinely have faith that the Comcom and Samknows are keen to do so.

Back to the OP - what is your actual issue?

What is your connection type and what is the issue?

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I have UFB on a Gigabyte plan using a Slingshot provided modem.  All these within the last year to attempt to fix a problem which I have and Slingshot have given as causes.   On the 22 January 2019  My Speed of me  Download Speed was 33.91 and my Upload 5.94,  Linetest was57.3 Download and 5.4 Upload.  Samknowles connected directly to my Modem on the same day was 296 Mbps (36.4% of advertised Download speed) and 326 Mbps (81.4% of advertised Upload speed).  Slingshots on test on there website was 926,06 Download and 509.76 Upload which is what they say I am paying for.  I play games - Minecraft especially and to crash changing dimensions is a pain

use the windows 10 speedtest app and test to a auckland/wellington/christchurch server, which even is closer.

make sure you are not doing this over wifi and ultimately make sure there is nothing else using your connection at the time

if that shows line speed then there is no issues with your connection.

also try a sydney speed test

i doubt there is an issue with your connection its likely your equipment or your methodology

The service is performing as expected. No fault there.

Slingshot are correct. There is no issue with the speed of your connection.

Those slow speed tests on the 22 January- What servers were you testing to to get those results? And was the device that you were using for testing connected via Ethernet?

As currently, we don't know if you were testing via Wifi, testing to a server that is on the other side of the world etc. Or if those speed tests were in game speed tests, then those servers might be overloaded. If so, you should be complaining to the owner of those servers instead of Slingshot.

The fact that the speed test on the Slingshot website shows good speeds. Means that there is no fault on the connection between Slingshot and you.

I don't play Minecraft, So I don't know where their servers are located. Are they located in NZ? if not, do you know where they are located?

I feel like this hasn't really been broken down for you to make sense..

myspeedofme do use edgecast, so depending on providers peering you could see it going to AU or NZ. their test is also single threaded, which isn't great for testing a fibre connections full performance.

linetest is vocus's customurl for okola speedtest (to their own servers). This should perform decent, however is limited to the users browser speed (which can often be the biggest limitation)

Download the windows 10 speedtest.net application, run a test on there. (this takes away the browser overhead)

Aside from your slingshot results, your tests look very much like wireless tests so i'd double check you are using Ethernet.
