So switched to 2Degrees Broadband, and got all that came with the offer. $200 in the account, Amazon Prime, the usual.

Well I already have an active subscription for Amazon, so I don't rush with this. There's an email there saying the subscription is ready. Great! I'll get to that once I've had the chance to sort out the current subscription.

Now, we're in the middle selling/buying/moving, so you can bet watching stuff on the goggle box isn't a priority.

At some point I cancel my subscription with Amazon, so it can be re-activated under the 2Degrees deal. So, I get the notification from Amazon today saying that the subscription has now expired. Tonight I go the email received back when I signed up, and click on the link to "Get Prime Video".

err

Oops, your link has expired You must be too busy having fun, your activation link has expired. Login below, or call us on 0800 022 022 if you need more help.

Logging in does nothing to help the situation, and it's late evening so no phone call tonight.

A quick google hunt and find a page on 2Degrees that has a clause

You will have 30 days from the date your Amazon Prime Video activation email is sent to you to activate the Promotion (Activation Period). If you don’t activate Amazon Prime Video within the Activation Period your subscription link will expire and you will not get the Promotion.

This was NOT mentioned in the email saying that "You Amazon Prime Video subscription is ready"!

30 Days or you're out of luck? Really?

IF I get time in amongst all the other crap that goes with final week of buying/selling/moving there will be a phone call being made during the week.

Not overly impressed. It's like "12 months of Amazon Prime Video on us! Unless you wait more than 30 days into your contract, so we save $8.99 a month and you're out of luck, sucker!"

Did you read the whole thing John? Just skimmed it, huh? You're not helpful.

You said this

" Logging in does nothing to help the situation, and it's late evening so no phone call tonight "

I don't get why you have not called and asked, 2degrees customer care is still working, I have called them late at night and had great service

Edit: You could even PM @2degreescare here on Geekzone and explain the situation and see if they can do anything to help

Because I have things to do and having a phone at my ear won't work at this time.

John, the point of this thread is to highlight the "gotcha" with this deal. The condition pointed out above (here' I'll put it in for you again)

You will have 30 days from the date your Amazon Prime Video activation email is sent to you to activate the Promotion (Activation Period). If you don’t activate Amazon Prime Video within the Activation Period your subscription link will expire and you will not get the Promotion.

It clearly states once the link expires, you're out of luck. Why would they say that if it weren't true? How many others decided to hold off activating this service, for whatever reason, and in doing so will miss out on what is supposed to be included in their contract?

I have already started I'll be phoning when I can.

The last PM (a week ago, different question) to @2degreescare went unread. I think they've gone walkabout.

I had a similar problem.
Signed up. Message sent to me.
I was already a member of Amazon, had to wait for it to expire.
When it expired I went back to the email but the link didn't work. It said it had already been used.
I rung 2Degrees, they happily sent me another link.

Always had good support from them.

As I said above, I fully intend to phone them. I also hope it won't be an issue, regardless of the stated condition. The point of the thread was to highlight what they say in the Terms and Conditions, should you fail to activate the link on time. To me, that very important condition should have been mentioned in the email with details of activating the Prime subscription.

Yes, it is a fairly major condition, and should be clearly highlighted on the primary promotional material.

I had something similar a while back, i bought a gfx card and received a free code to buy a PC game.

I wasn't sure which one to get, and wasn't in a hurry, but when i went to actually buy the game, the code had expired.

I had no idea the code would expire, but sure enough, in the pages of fine print, it expires 30 days after being issued.

After nearly 50 minutes on hold tonight, I managed to work through the situation with a rather helpful chap who ultimately sent out a new link, and we're away.

Again, my issue is with a rather important condition which was not mentioned in the initial pertinent email, and in fact there is no urgency suggested at all.

Right, back to prepping and packing.
