I'm on 2degrees fibre using Edgerouter 4 with both v4 & v6 running smoothly. I changed to a static ip today and lost internet connection.

I could see the static v4 IP on the pppoe interface but was unable to load webpages or ping 8.8.8.8 for example. No joy with a reboot. Unfortunately I'm on call
for work this week and I didn't have time to tinker. Amazing service from 2degrees who changed me back to dynamic ipv4 stat, with everything working again.

I had assumed that a static ip would work without requiring additional configuration. The ubiquity forums show someone who changed their source NAT rule from "use Masquerade"
to "Specify address and/or port" and adding the static IP with success.

Has anyone else got a static ip and using an Edgerouter that could point me in the right direction? I'll give the connection another go once my work week finishes.

Hi a static ip is no different to a non static one except the automated allocation is......... Static.

Just check non of your firewall rules tie it down to any specific gateway or subnet, and check the route table is correct and you have indeed been allocated a seemingly workable ip. And can you ping the gateway you have been assigned

As for using masquerade or from a set ip or pool, if things are working correctly it should not matter .

Normally there should be no difference between dynamic and static IP handling except you have to disable the DDNS and enable a DNS service if your router needs to be addressed from the internet.

- NET: FTTH, OPNsense, 10G backbone, GWN APs, ipPBX

Yes, that was my understanding. I'm sure there is something simple I have missed / messed up in my firewall rules which shouldn't be too difficult to track down. I'll have another go this weekend hopefully.

I had the exact same issue as you, ER4, 2degrees, getting a static IP added. Soon as they applied it, router got the new IP but couldn't access anything. Traceroutes wouldn't go any further than the second hop. Removing the static IP fixed it. So they put me on a new static IP with a different range and it's been fine since.

Correction, looking back through my ticket it appeared on the non-working static IP I couldn't traceroute past the 100.7.69.111 second hop.

Thanks. Looks like we have had similar issues that may not be on our end. I'll investigate further and report back.

Update: I have been assigned a new static ip in the same range as @Delphinius with no problems since. No configuration changes needed as expected.

A static ip with any isp or router only is required if you want your public ip to be static. And you normally only need that if you are publishing services from your network.

Non static IP with 2D and Edgerouter works 100% fine.
