I had excellent results with 2D WiFi calling in Japan last year, but some research I've done (some could be dated) suggests that WiFi calling is blocked in Vietnam and some other countries.

I'm planning to buy a Viettel, Mobifone, Vinaphone or other SIM when I get there in December and use it in a Huawei E5783B 3G/4G wifi portable hotspot and use this for internet and WiFi calling.

Can anyone confirm this works in Vietnam, or is there a preferred provider that does support this?

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

I understand what you're saying, but I'm hoping someone here, has been there, and can share their experience. I see that Google-Fi claims to work there now, which I believe is similar technology, so hopefully things have changed recently?

Unless someone who has been to Vietnam and tried your particular combination sees this thread and replies, all I can tell you is that 2degrees does not restrict the use of VoWifi from any location. As long as the internet connection you have can reach our gateway, VoWifi will work. For example, I last used it in Turkey, via hotspot from my iPad that had a Turkcell SIM in it.

Best bet would be to check that that Huawei hotspot works in NZ to ensure that it itself doesn't have any ports blocked or whatever and then you can be reasonably confident.

Yes, the Huawei hotspot works just fine here in NZ using a Kogen SIM (via Vodafone's network) and covers Bands 1 and 3 used in Vietnam along with several others so I'm guessing no problem there. It's Vietnam itself I'm not sure about. Maybe some Telcos there block VoWiFi and some don't? I'm hoping someone has been there and can share their experience.
