Hi,
I used to be on the orcon@homeplans and recently changed to orcon+ plans thinking the speeds would be better. I think they have become worse, especially at night. When I use my computer and my Dad uses his laptop, pages load very slowly at times which didn't happen before.  Has this happened to anyone else? Is this something that can't be fixed?
Thanks.

Definitely noticing slower browsing in the evenings, no doubt about it.  Slower than xtra, which we just changed from.
Actually a little bummed out - xtra just boosted their plans the week after we left them, and probably was faster all round than Orcon - thinking about heading back to them...

You should really contact their support desk for any issues. The reps here keep us informed, but of course troubleshooting will need to be done first.

Orcon Customer Support is a Joke!! I have had a running battle with the customer services dept since my
download speed dropped from a happy 5301 kbs to 2241 kbs.

I tell them that I have had a drop in speed, they tell me I am getting the fastest speed allowable through the copperbandwith.

I tell her that cannot be as I have tracked my speeds at the higher level 5301kb/s (www.speedtest.net)  from April - Sept.

She tells me a story about the service being like a car, the more times you use it, it is likely to break down.

I tell her I don't care about her car - I'm the guy paying for the petrol.

I just had a telecom guy ring me up and leave a message on my phone telling me the same thing "The copper wiring is supplying me with the fastest speed possible"

Could it be that I have imagined my previous download speeds?

Could it be that the site www.speedtest.net is providing me with false information?

Could it be that my cat like senses are now starting to betray me, by seemingly making things go slower?

How is it that these same lines were able to supply me with speeds of 5301kb/s for five months then suddenly drop out?

Should I call Ripleys believe it or not? As according to customer service, it is not possible.

It has been almost a month and my speeds are still slow.

I am always looking for a new ISp. As soon as I find one with a good help desk I am  going to lose these suckers!!!

Orcon can get pretty slow at times in the evenings.  But it shouldn't be slower because you've changed to a LLU plan.  Might be worth a call to their customer service to check everything is OK.

I have also spent considerable time with the Helpdesk.
My connection is fine during the day, but come the evenings, there is a massive slowdown.
Orcon's advice was "You don't have to stay with us  - there is no contract" Yell

My problem is around the clock 24/7. At peak times my speeds go from slow to super slow.

I think my problem would be halved if the customer services desk offered more assistance. As it is when I ring them they seem arrogant. Frustrating
when I know there could be a good service at Orcon but the front soldiers of the company give you a feeling of "like it or lump it buddy"

This seems pretty standard for telco customer service these days.  The staff must get paid bonuses on how quickly they end calls, not on resolving them.

You've somehow got to talk to one of the techs.  I got the same type of runaround from Vodafone mobile, until finally one of their more helpful staff "escalated" my problem to a tech.  At least with Orcon, you have the option of ditching them at any time.  But then you have to go to another ISP...

Guys this is going way off topic.

The OP asked for advice on his connectoin, not your opinions of a Telco's customer service. Unless we hear from the OP again, or this goes back on topic, then it will be locked.

Just trying to help - it is not always easy to get tech support for issues like this.

This link could be worth a look:  http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Feature/119238,boost-your-broadband-speed-for-free.aspx/1

There's got to be a reason why link speeds change, so the usual process of simplifying everything is worth a try.  A letter in response to this article said that the link speed imcreased by 10% when the cable to the modem was replaced.
