Hi All,

Is anyone else seeing higher latency than normal to the US?  This is my view from Christchurch.

Our international capacity provider is investigating an issue on our link from Takapuna to Los Angeles, so traffic is having to take the long path at the moment. We will restore to the short path as soon as possible.

Any posts are personal comments and not that of my employer

Following up on this - As a matter of interest/a suggestion - is the Network Status page (https://www.2degrees.nz/network-status/) still a thing for these types of updates as I'm sure others may be unaware and questioning latency and maybe looking there.

Nick

What impact is this having on you? I haven't noticed any difference, 2degrees is looking at it, so whenever it's resolved is probably not a big impact?

it looks like there was some damage to the cable between the Morro bay landing station and our LA pop. Still waiting on Southern Cross to make final repairs.

I'm pulling some content from the US and therefore it slower than normal, not sure I have to answer to you?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

You know this is how the internet works right? (I know you do)... a status update for every path change and working-as-intended resilience behaviours would be insane.

Cheers - N

:-) Don't disagree with your comment re: status updates for every path, nationally an increase of a few ms has limited impact. However on a long standing fault for international connectivity (with a degradation of service - increase of ~60ms) I guess I view this differently. One of the great selling points of the 2d network is the design and direct path to the US vs. other providers who bounce around to Australia then onto the US.

Nick.

You don't have to answer, but I am allowed to ask, I was curious what the real world impact was :)
