I got a call from an Oz number this morning +618... - I was in a meeting at the time so didnt answer and they didnt leave a message.

I tried to call back but 2 degrees says the number isnt recognised?

Is this just a spam call? Any other reason the number wouldnt be valid?

EDIT: the exact message when dialing is "We didnt recognise the number you dialled"

+618 followed by 8 more digits? While those are typically legitimate, I had a rash of spam calls from that range (+61 8 8948 xxxx) a month or so ago, so this might be more of the same.

I suppose it depends what the rest of the number was. +618 could be valid (that's SA, WA & NT).

Correct it was 8 digits eg +61 8 7957 XXXX

It certainly looked legit but 2 degrees just says number not recognised. I tried 00618... as well and same thing.

Google doesnt come up with anything for that number either.

Certainly sounds more like spam than anything else. It's not like we block calls to Western Australia, no matter how much they deserve it.

I was getting these multiple times a day throughout October - December. They seem to have calmed down a bit now.

When I answer the calls they tend to be crypto/investment scams.

7pm last night I was cleaning up the garage when my cellphone rang.  The phone was still in my car which had been parked outside the garage since 6pm.

I didn't recognize the number so figured it could be a new client.  Instead a girl whom I didn't know asks why I phoned her. I was like ermm? I didn't call you? - you called me.

Then another girl jumps on and insists I called not 5mins before and nope there was no chance of a misdial as her friend simply tapped the return call option on her phone.

I'm in Northland. The strangers claim they're from Wellington region, but declined to give further details.

So it would appear scammers have spoofed my number.  No idea what sort of scam though.
