Will this ever be possible?

Mum has to change from xnet since it is just _so_ bad now that it may as well be dialup for browsing and downloading isnt a lot better.

However since they only want to sell their plus service thats a problem, since their toll rates totally suck compared to others - twice the price for aussie calls for half the lenght - so four times more expensive.

Wont sell a wholesaled internet connection any more since they want to trap you on their PSTN service (which based on what happens at my sisters isnt that reliable)

Only saving grace is the full speed upload and the fact that caller id is included rather then extra like with telecom - the total spend is about the same for a telecom pstn and xnet internet and the orcon network - so there is no saving there to offset the lousy toll rates.

Unlickley. I suspect that once you sign up with Orcon's + (LLU) and use their fone service you have to also use their toll service as well. What are you comparing Orcon's toll rates with?? For what its worth I'm on Orcon + and currently trying to get back to UBS. Hopefully this should happen tomorrow..

Since the copper is directly plugged into the Orcon MSANS, Orcon is unable to provide tolls from another toll provider.

However the bypass codes should work. So you can dial 0519 et and use other providers that way.

Also details on the "Unreliable" PSTN service please.

Do you have an Orcon ticket number I could look at?

Many international destinations are available as $10 per month unlimited calling (up to 1 hour per call) add on's on all the Orcon@Home+ plans - including Australia. Might pay to look into that if you have frequently called international destinations.

Never bothered to make one, but the complaints I have bought up on here in the past.

No audio, no call completion and frequent drops in line voltage were the problems - Havent spoken to my sister about it recently but the alarm was often beeping for fault with the phoneline often, and on 2 occasions it has failed to make its daily call out to the monitoring company, she has picked up the phone and had no dialtone and ended up using the cellphone instead. Its just not as reliable as telecom, and if its going to be as unreliable as a voip provider then it should be priced like one IMO.

The thing is that my sister makes stuff all calls on it so the portion of failed calls or problems would be close to 5% or so.

The $10 deal isnt very good since if there are 3 countries called thats $30 - whereas its $2 or $3 for 2 hours thru the others and you dont have to mess around adding it if you think you're gonna use it. I really dont know if I could get mum to move over to orcon for calls with the pricing and issues my sister has had in the past.

Duncan, any chance of Orcon ever making that "1 hour" 2 hours? Friend got burnt and switched back to Telecom forthwith.

Amazing that Telecom have to let other toll companies "in" (NCA) but other toll companies won't let each other play.

Not really amazing, telecom are constrained by the rulings that the other telcos have caused them to be stuck with by their crying to the regulators. All the others get to claim underdog status and get away without offering it - IMO once you are selling the local loop they should have to NCA for all like telecom do.
