A telecom roadside cabnet has been put on my street and this downgrade my LLU speed. as a solution, Orcon automatically put me on a wholesae plan without my acknowlegement.

i was on a silver + plan which paying $80 for 5GB and just before change over, i purchased a 10GB data block and make up the bill as $92. hence, the provisioning team automatically put me on a Purple 1GB + 10GB data block, again, i have got no notification... when i rang up, the CSR juz told me that 's the best they can do to bring me closer to what i used to be... and i will be paying $92 but with 11GB of data (although this is not happenning on the cut over invoice which is another long story)...i know the cabnetisation is not Orcon's fault, but this is something btw ORCON and Telecom, as a customer i should not be impact at all..

i am dispppointed for this disadvantage on my plan...although speed is up now but that's something i am suppose to get, isn't it?

That's rough, ya Speed might be better, but it doesn't take you as far as the old plan.
Slingshot has some nice 15GB plans that are will under $92

how can they put you to purple? that requires a Telecom Land line which you wouldnt have anymore since you moved to LLU? surely they are not able to resign you up to Telecom without your consent?

there is one, but when i ask how this calculated no one can give me a solid answer....

i am concerned on this one:
Smartphone Bundle for phone/extension

15 dollars a month which i have got no idea what is it and not using that,, i would rather buying 10GB data block for this 15 bucks...

Nice to see that Orcon is not letting down the Telecommunications market by producing information that was not confusing /sarcasm.

I have to agree with OP on their customer service!! Basically they havent installed their equipment in your area yet and that is leading to a reduction in the quality of your broadband - agrivated particularly by the telecom gear getting installed...

Option 1) change to a telecom based supplier on ADSL2 as your area apparently now has connectivity

Option 2) Find out when they are installing their equipment and wait patiently

EDIT: I see the main complaint is the change of plan..  Like the poster a few above I dont understand how you are naked on Purple (not purple +) nor do I understand why they "had to change you"

Seems to be alot of mis information or malformed ideas here.

It would appear you were on a ULL connection with Orcon, all good, then you were cabinetised so quite rightly Orcon did the best thing for you and moved you back to a Telecom Wholesale product albeit with a reduced data cap, as its things like data caps that are the only advantage that a ULL connection may offer over a Telecom Wholesale one, ie the extra cost Orcon would pay to Telecom is offset by better caps, anyother advantage like speed etc is irrelevant as both products provide a similar level of service, obviously once cabinetised the ULL is to unpredictable and most certainly significantly worse in speed performance as to automatically mean a return to wholesale.

The only thing I find is missing here is that Orcon did not explain this to you before they returned your connection, other than that I dont see any issue.

Sorry to break it to you but that is *far* from the truth of "the only advantage".

Searching for information on QoS for a router, I came across another Geekzone thread which linked here.

Anyways, working with VoIP and shoddy DSL connections on a daily basis, I can happily confirm that by going with somebody such as Orcon on their + network, or Vodafone on their RED network, if you're getting ADSl2+ its pretty much always going to be better speeds, lower latency, less jitter and last but not least you'll be getting decent data plans / packages.
The reason for this is Telecom grossly over-subscribe their local exchanges! By a long shot!

They've only just recently upgraded their one in the lower Auckland CBD, due to the fact I moaned & complained for about 5 weeks at them until they finally realized "Hey we've actually stuffed up horribly here". Anybody on that exchange found themselves completely unable to make any VoIP calls due to the fact the exchange was so overloaded that pings to TradeMe.co.nz ranged between 200ms -> 600ms during business hours.
A quick switch to an unbundled ISP and the pings went down to 18ms with a max of 20ms. Thats how a connection *should* be!

Again, same for a customer out in Te Atatu. They recently went from WxC with speeds averaging 120KB/sec on speedtest.net from both the Auckland & Tauranga sites. Pings to TradeMe jittered between 60ms -> 150ms. Change to Orcon and at peak times the ping is 38ms with 4ms MAX of Jitter. No changes to the Router except for the new Username and it now syncs with the exchange at 15000kbps, and they attain 14000kbps+ (After I've applied QoS) EVERY time to any speedtest.net site in NZ, not to mention they get international transfers frequently at 1.5MEGABYTES per-second

THAT my friend is the difference between an unbundled ISP and somebody wholesaling off Telecom.

I'm sure there are a few Telecom exchanges that are problematic congestion wise but I haven't experienced that problem myself with friends, family or my own connection.
