Hi - just seeking some confirmation about using the above ph (bought as XT ph from the Warehouse recently)

If I put a 2degrees SIM in it I believe I should be able to make normal voice calls and send texts no problem and will be able to use it in all areas of 2degrees (and vodafones backup) coverage - is this correct?

What I am not quite clear about is what sort of data coverage will be available. To be honest I have never used any mobile data before and am a bit confused by all the different specs but would appreciate a bit of an idea as to what sort of speeds and coverage I can expect? - what will I miss out on (if anything) that the Nokia 6121 can do?

Will the 6120 actually be the better ph when 2degrees start their 2100 MHz network or am I misunderstanding things here?

I live in Christchurch so presume I should be within most of their coverage area.

Just to clarify these are the 6120 specs (according to the DSE website) -

GSM Network Frequency: 850⁄900⁄1800⁄1900, WCDMA 850⁄2100

3G: Yes

and these are the 6121 specs

GSM Networking Frequency: 850⁄900⁄1800⁄1900

3G: Yes

+1, it will work fine on 2D, but if you want Mobile Data Telecom and VF offer better rates, and as John says this phone with it's W850 band is best suited to Telecom XT.

'Faster in more places' - ;)

I appreciate XT is faster but to be honest I am a lite/basic user only and for me on prepay voice and text will be much cheaper. As long as coverage will be good and I can use the occasional data to start with.

Data is charged at $0.50c per MB, compared to $1/day for upto 10 MB on XT and VF on the days you use it.

Just out of question, how many TXT's do you send in a month? How many call's do you make?

This phone is fine on 2degrees,you can go onto the 2degrees web site and get the settings for wap, mms etc sent to your phone.

Only 5-10 short calls and maybe 20-30 txt's each month. As I say a very light user. I've not used data yet and don't imagine I will on a regular basis.

Hi Mattv,

Your new phone will work fine on the 2degrees network and as you live in Christchurch you will also be able to make the most of our EDGE network whenever you do use data.
As a self described light data user, 2degrees is by far and away the better option for you compared to the others. You only pay for what you use, you're not stung with a daily or monthly amount.
Pick up a SIM, pop it in the back, dial 200 and your good to go!
