Hello, I am in the market for a new phone, I've seen this on the 2 degrees site
"And it won't be long before we flick the switch on our 2100Mhz 3G/HSPA+ network."
So what do I need to look for in a new phone to make sure it will work well on that 3G network?
Lots of phones say "GSM Band850/900/1800/1900", but say nothing for 3G/HSPA.
I'm a bit confused. cheers

Look it up in the phone specs on their site like www.nokia.com.

When you give the examples "GSM Band850/900/1800/1900", these are basically Networks the phone can connect too. A phone with UMTS 2100Mhz capability will be able to get the full functions and speed of the new 3G 2 degrees network. The GSM band you talk about is for 2G GPRS/EDGE internet connections.

what I'm keen to know is how 2degrees is going to get on 3g wise outside of the coverage of their own towers
e.g will it be possible to roam on Vodafone's 900 and 2100mhz network?

Who knows the future? At the moment 2degrees user can only roam on Vodafone 2G network.

or GSMarena.com

List phones by:
HSPDA/3g 850/2100 for XT
2100 for 2Degrees
almost all phones with 3g support have GSM bands also, mostly quad or tri to use the current 2degrees network

thanks. I'm looking for HSDPA rather than UTMS. correct? Seems UTMS might work, but HSPDA will work.

HSPDA is 3.5g, a form of UTMS(3g) :)
In the phone specs, look for HSPDA or UMTS speed under description:
Ideally you'll want higher than 3mbps, as the slower phones like the Nokia 6600i that Telecom XT has, only downloads at 384kbps :S

it'll have it written in there :) how fast the download/upload speed is on gsmarena
