today, i sat around the same table with 2 other friends at the cafeteria

friend 1: crap, i need to topup my phone again.

friend 2: why?

friend 1: so many friends move to 2degrees now. my $10 for 2000 texts plan is useless!

friend 2: yes! same here. i dont know why they all want to move to 2 degrees... what is so good about them?

this is NOT an imaginary conversation.

I wonder how well is 2degrees at the moment? how many *paying* customers they have. based on this simple/short conversation, I would like to believe that they have done quite well. congratulations to 2degrees! roll out the 3G network, add intra-network plan, you should have more customers moving to your network.

I know I moved to 2Degrees mainly cos I hate the other two networks with a passion and equally...

So far so good on 2D thou I dont do a lot of texting and never did...
Its still early days but it looks like my money lasts just as long as it used to with Vodafone and I actually do a bit more texting and make some calls...

Ironically the only bad point so far is in my house! We are down in a bit of a valley in West Auckland and the coverage is crap on the 2D network and half the time the phone switches to Roaming on the Vodafone network which seems to have a good reception signal...

but it would be better if the 2D signal was better or I could get the phone to roam all the time when Im at home...

edit: I do have one friend that will no longer text me cos Im not on vodafone... but it doesnt worry me enough to go back to Vodafone

I can understand Bee hating both networks.

I'm on all 3, but mainly I use my Telecom number for 500 txts to all numbers + the mobile broadband.

When 2degrees picks up mobile data for a good price, I think i'll shift permanently to them :)
With the XT simcard as my backup and Vodafone sim....well i think I'll flick that off with my phone

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

boost txt is the same, but only to telecom numbers.

In the process of porting 4 connections back to Vodafone from 2degrees.

Reason being, 2d have no "unlimited calling packages" to specific groups.... eg, family or bestmates.

The value in such packages can be extremely good depending on the type of mobile user you are.

I ported mine and my wife's numbers a couple of months ago. And we're enjoying every minute of it. First off, 2Degrees reception is way way better than Vodafone. 2nd $20 topups lasts longer than it used to be when we were on Vodafone. 3rd I can now call my mom anytime, on mobile or landline overseas without spending too much $ and it's just like talking to her on a landline in NZ. When we used Vodafone's $2/hour promo, it keeps on cutting out after a few seconds or minutes then you lost your $2. You have to dial again and again and suffer the same problem, lost another $2 and once you get connected, the quality is crap! 4th I get 100 free txt's each time I load $20 and that's all I need for one month. Thanks 2Degrees for making life easier for us.

I have just got a couple of GSM audio monitoring things that will necessitate me running some best mate sims to use them in an affordable manner - even at 22c it gets pretty pricey. Have ordered a gsm gps to stash in the car which I will probably keep a vodafone sim in so I can add bestmate if its ever needed to get it sending many updates. Wish there was some way to program the device to add best mate before sending updates but I have a feeling that they would never add something like that just for NZ..
