I repair pc's and use rapidshare to download drivers, especially xp drivers for some recent hp notebooks, where the hp website only lists the vista drivers for a specific model notebook and not drivers for xp "thanks hp!"  but anyway to my point...  due to Orcons restricting of access to rapidshare, I am unable to download files greater 10mb without much difficulty,  Last night i was trying to download a file of 16mb from rapidshare and took a couple of hours and repeated attempts, as the download would run at 5kb/s approx and get to around 60% or 70% then time out.  I rang orcon and yes the guy on the phone confirmed they were limiting access to rapidshare.  I told them to lift the restriction or I would be switching isp's, the guy said he would take a note of that.  But I think this is rediculous!, Orcon can do this, I pay for an internet service and I expect to get access to every website available on the internet.

In orcons terms and conditions:

2.3 Orcon prioritises certain types of traffic such as web and email. Other types of traffic such as peer to peer (P2P) are deprioritised.

Looks like Orcon prioritise web and email, so if this is what they say in their terms and conditions, then why Orcon can I not use rapidshare?  Rapidshare is a website and obviously part of the web and you prioritise such services according to your terms and condtions.

I would hate to think of the problems other users are facing due to Orcons restrcting of this website.  I know that people use rapidshare to send files that are too large to email, eg adobe photoshop files.

Orcon needs to get this sorted

If im after a driver or a specific filename of a zip or rar package which includes a driver version#, i often use google to search for a download location, rapidshare sometimes comes up, if i cant download then what im i supposed to do? Sometimes rapidshare may be the only site that has a specific driver I want.

The issue here is that Rapidshare is very quickly becoming the no1 source for pirated content in part because of traffic shaping of other P2P data.

If you don't like it your best option is probably to move ISP's.

I would also say move isp.
Switch to Telecom - they will let you shine!

Otherwise a free account at driverguide.com might be needed. They basically have almost everything there and I dont think they use rapidshare files to host the content. Dont download one of their automatic driver update programs tho.

Just change ISP.

It's obvious Orcon don't want your money,

take your business else where. I have read people on telecom getting excellent repaidshare speeds 24/7.

I have never been with Telecom ive always steered clear of them, simply because theres been a lot of fuss with them in the past, monopolising the market etc and not looking after customers, but if people are commenting on how good their service is (which I have heard from several sources already) then i'll definately look at joining Telecom. A customer of mine who I repaired a pc for today wanted to get broadband so helped him get onto Telecom broadband, I would normally suggest Orcon but for obvious reasons im no longer, thats one less customer Orcon could have possibly had join up today. In the past I have always suggested Orcon to customers ive done work for, simply because Orcon seemed to provide the best broadband speed out of 10 isps tested by the NZ Herald a while back. One customer in particular was with woosh wireless and was getting slow download speeds due to not much signal even with booster, so recommended Orcon and they changed to Orcon broadband. I hope someone at Orcon reads this post. If someone at Orcon needs to phone me they can do so by looking up my geekzone username on their system, my geekzone username is the same as my Orcon username.

I had 15gb of unused bandwidth on the last day. Decided to download some things off Rapidshare and Megaupload with my premium accounts... then both sites stopped working until 12am! Not very pleased to say the least...
