2degrees sent out a press release today with the following wording:

2degrees Mobile broadens network with 3G Spectrum

2degrees Mobile has started to integrate 2100 MHz, 3G spectrum across its new network.

According to 2degrees Mobile Chief Executive, Eric Hertz, this is a significant milestone for the company just 12 short weeks after it launched a brand new mobile service aimed at delivering simplicity and better value for New Zealand mobile users.

“Adding third generation technology to our network means that not only are we able to further increase the capacity on our network, but more importantly we are able to bring our customers new products and services.

“We look forward to bringing these new services to market throughout 2010,” said Eric.

2degrees Mobile was provided access to third-generation spectrum through its foundation shareholder, Hautaki Limited. Hautaki holds a 20 percent share in 2degrees Mobile.

So basically just saying we already knew - 3G is part of the plan, not completed before end of 2010, etc, etc...

Also just to confirm some other information: 3G will be rolled out nationwide where 2degrees has coverage, and the current Vodafone roaming agreement will be extended to cover 3G as well.

Not completed? :)

Might explain why I saw a guy yesterday working on a cabinet to a NZ Comms tower...

This is definitely good news though. I can't wait!

At the moment the price on the website says 50c per mb....

The other day when my internet was down, I used it all day and it only charged me $10.

I won't give any more details than that, but I'm interested to see if regular customers are actually being charged the full 50c per meg.
