Orcon launches ‘all-you-can-eat’ shared web hosting package

A unique ‘no limits’ web hosting plan that includes unlimited space, traffic and websites has been launched by Orcon’s iSERVE brand.

For a fixed monthly fee ($80 incl. GST), web service providers and resellers can add unlimited websites, POP mailboxes and email addresses at no additional cost.

The company says it’s the ideal shared hosting solution for web developers, hosting providers, value added providers and resellers looking to better control their hosting costs, while providing a feature rich management console.

The feature set also includes unlimited FTP and stats users while ‘No Limits’ customers also get access to iSERVE’s domain reselling associate program.
Orcon CEO Scott Bartlett says the new offering is unlike any product currently available in the market place.

“While there are a number of unlimited hosting plans in the market, none that we know of enables users to host Linux and Windows websites without extra costs for additional domain names, all on the same plan for one fixed price per month.”

Managing multiple domains, websites and email is easy with iSERVE’s web-based hosting management console, enabling users to administer online assets in real time.

The ‘No Limits’ web hosting plan is available to new and existing iSERVE customers.

iSERVE was acquired by Orcon in May 2009 when it was the country’s second largest specialty hosting business. It provides a range of hosting products including website hosting, dedicated or virtual server hosting, cloud computing services, domain name solutions and more.

Quite interesting.

I wish they would provide more detail on their site of what the "real" terms are (soft limits and so on) and what sort share of cpu time and memory is expected.

I wonder how "unlimited" it is. I bet at some stage someone will receive a call saying "Your domain is using too much resources and you need to move to a dedicated server"...

I imagine there's a 'fair use' or 'acceptable use' policy ... but yeah fairly light on details there.

Like others have mentioned, I'd like to know what the limits are for their unlimited plan. :-)

Also, what's the performance like - perhaps they throttle the available bandwidth?

There is no such thing as 'unlimited'. I am sure that if they had a user storing TBs of videos and running a video sharing website, they would be contacting the user. Other NZ providers who offer unlimited, call it 'unmetered' and have exclusion clauses. Webdrive for instance have 'unmetered' but from my experience, they only allow you to have up to 1GB of diskspace on their windows servers.

The main disadvantage with the iserve system, is that they only give you one control panel, so as a web designer you can't give your clients access to this, for them to manage their own email accounts. Thus it does not compare to other reseller plans available from other providers, where you get a control panel for each subaccount you setup. Also email accounts are only 20MB in size.

Very light on the info.  Are the servers in NZ, is the "unlimited traffic" including international. If you have 40g of data and 200g of traffic a month, will they be kicking you out.

There is actually a mistake in the press release. It says it is $80 per month, yet the terms of the plan state it is billed every 28 days. Thus, that would make 13 billing intervals per year, not 12. So essentially you are paying an extra $80 per year.

Yes they are NZ servers, well at least their lower plans currently are. However if you are hosting a website that caters to a worldwide audience, this is a disadvantage.

If you were getting through that sort of data, I assume that that would cause performance issues for other users on the server. If you look in their acceptable usage policy, it states that plans come with 7GB of traffic, and additional data is billed at $25 per extra GB.

It actually works out at $86.67 per month, not $80

Blimey.  I'll take your word for it as true, but, that's got to be treading a line with misleading advertising then "Unlimited Plan  ([smallprint]PS: limited to 7GB traffic[/smallprint])"

I emailed iServe for confirmation on what their limits are, if any. This was their response:

Hi Stuart

Thanks for your E mail in regards to the no limits plan.

There are no limits on the no limits plan. You get unlimited bandwidth for the domains and yes you can create MySQL databases on the account and they are unlimited as well.

If there is anything else we can help you with please let us know.

Kind Regards.

"Yeah Right"... ™

Guess they are hoping the $86.x per month is high enough barrier to entry to dissuage a lot of "tyre kickers" from signing up.

I've emailed them back again for further clarification because any sensible person knows that there is no such thing as "no limits".
