Have just got a new Nokia 5800 and have been onto the Ovi store to get a few apps and the site says that the message has been sent to my phone but I've not received them.

Have successfully sent and received texts so I know that bit's working so have I done something wrong, any ideas welcome

Hi. I have a Nokia 3120c and using the new S40 app have had no trouble using the OVI store. I have had no trouble receiving texts from Nokia or OVI on 2 degrees either.

Hmm, what could be wrong then I wonder?

Might try browsing from the phone itself when I get home and connect to Wifi

I'm pretty sure Nokia use SS7 to terminate their Ovi Store messages. If so, and their service provider isn't aware of NZ MNP (which is nearly certain) and it's a carrier we don't have a roaming or direct SMS interworking agreement with, then that will be the problem. See my post on the Short Message Service for all the techy and/or commercial details of why it can work to an 022 number but not to a ported-in number.

Also, as always, while I would love to be able to sort this out for you, it's totally outside 2degrees' control unless/until they come in to us directly. Sorry!

Cheers
S

Thanks for that, I imagined it was something to do with that.

Ah well, will just have to download content whilst on web so no problem really

On that note, is it possible to get a new 2Degrees SIM and thus number and have the old ported number forwarded to it?

You're welcome. ;-)

No. The problem is getting to our network in the first place. If that worked properly we would just deliver it to you. If you mean could you take the ported number back to Vodafone, and then forward all calls & SMSes to 2degrees...

Well, calls, yes, SMS, no - but Vodafone will charge you for the privilege of forwarding the calls, and you will have to buy a new Vodafone SIM first.

What I really meant was, if it works OK on an 022 number could I just get a new SIM to get an 022 number and thus be able to receive these things and then have my current 021 number (2Degrees) forwarded so if someone called the 021 number it would call the new 022 one?

Oh, right - yes, that will work. But then *we* will charge you for the privilege of forwarding the calls. :-)

The texts could be coming from an overseas network provider that we don't have a support agreement with. I've called Nokia 0800-665-421 but they said they need to talk to you, the customer, about it. A bit frustrating. ^POB

The text sent to you from Ovi is nothing more than a link to that app.

You'll still need to connect to the Ovi Store on your handset to download it.

I called them but had a bit of trouble understanding the guy's accent (and I'm English so fairly multicultural) and he said I needed to call Vodafone?

Yes I realised that, the worry was more about whether I'd set the handset up properly

No no no... What I reckon is happening is VF NZ are receiving the text and not passing it on to 2D.
What we can do is check if any of those texts have hit our network but it would really help to know where those texts are originating from, your number and times they would have been sent. Do you want to send me an email with your number and details and I'll look into it? ^POB
