Hi everyone I am new to geekzone and kind of computer illiterate

But I just moved over from telecom broadband to Slingshot everyday account

Just completed my first ever speedtest and I don't know if its good or not
I am assuming the upload speed of 0.12Mpbs is bad because whenever I upload
something its taking at least 20minutes

where as when I was with telecom it would only take 2minutes or so for a file thats
double the size

and now with slingshot when im uploading i cant do anything else online because webpages
either dont load or take forever

What can i do plz

looks like you are on a plan FS/128k up and not a FS/FS plan. What does the slingshot site about your plan and the speeds it supports?

John

thank you for the replies

on the site it says
speed = full speed download/128kbps upload?

but i am not sure what the upload thing means

so is it correct that it should be as slow as 0.12Mbps?

so i switched over to slingshot but with the upload speed feels like
its only about 2x faster than dial up

having a limited uplink speed 128k plan like you are on will also restrict your download speed you are better off on a FS/FS plan

Would it be worth me giving them a ring to inquire or complain? maybe they will just tell
me what you said i guess i should of asked the speeds before i signed up

You could upgrade your plan to http://www.slingshot.co.nz/images/Promotions/planfinder/planfinder.html#Plan39 at $40 a month and have a FS/FS connection. That will help to take maximum advantage of the free data periods.

What was your old telecom plan called?

thanks for that hellonearthisman

I was on the 39.95 a month GO plan i dont really understand speed n connections
so I am not sure what ADSL2+. ADSL means from the go plan I was on with telecom but i
could always browse the internet while uploading big files cant do that at all on
the everyday plan with slingshot i guess im getting what i pay for

I had to switch from the GO plan with telecom because i couldnt afford it n was attracted to
slingshots being 10 dollars cheaper n i guess now i know why i didnt know what F/S or all those numbers meant

i cant really afford anything over 30 now so the Go plan was only 3GB and everyday slingshot
is 5GB

idk if its better being on a plan thats 10 cheaper or being on a plan where i didnt have to
sit n wait for an upload of a file without being able to surf the net at the same time

i feel stupid now switching almost like ive gone back to dial up

Well you could chose Slingshots advanced plus plan at $39.95 per month FS/FS and 5gb of data. That should give you the speed you are used to and the extra 2gb for what you were paying before.

Yeah I should still thinking about how i can fit it into my finances

just keep thinking of when i was with telecom id go thru 3gbs in 10days then on the
last day of every month it would go back to being fast so id end up using around 15gbs
on my 3gb plan

i wonder if slingshot does that on every last day of the month.

I wish i had read all terms n conditions with slingshot it says invoice has to be paid within
10days with telecom i had just over 2weeks to save up to pay it

ive only been with slingshot since tuesday n just now realising i may have made a big mistake
