NZCoderGuy: So you can't roam on Vodafone, 3 or Virgin? its weird how you can roam on Vodafone NZ with 2d but not Vodafone AU.. network agreements i guess.

Why would one want to roam on Vodafone or Three in Australia when Optus and Telstra have far better coverage? And Virgin does not have their own network, they piggy back off Optus' network.
I know that given the choice I would go for Telstra (for 850/2100 devices) or Optus (for 900/2100 devices). Vodafone's coverage is shocking out of the cities from what I've heard.

You do of course realise that Vodafone and Optus shared their WCDMA network rollout and in the vast majority of cases both share the same sites and panels?
KiwiSurfer: Roaming prices on all carriers are a rip off. Especially the SMS roaming costs -- I refuse to believe it costs them an average of 80cents for SMS. I remember the good old days when VF just passed on the actual costs of SMS from the operating carrier. I can recall that there was a handful of countries that people from NZ rarely visitied had SMS as expensive as 80cents -- the vast majority was around 20-50cents...
While I appreciate the reason behind a standard SMS price across all zones, I think they need to vary the price according to zone as surely the cost does vary from zone to zone.
