Anybody noticed that the cell broadcast feature on the 2 degrees GSM network is not working here in Wellington. Once I roam onto the Vfone network all cell broadcast information is displayed so therefore there is no fault in my handset.

Was until up to a week ago. They must have switched this feature off.

Probably too many complaints about people getting the wrong suburb on their phones. Someone I know who worked at vodafone once told of people in snooty suburbs calling annoyed they had the name of poorer ones on their phone at home.

Hi, it's a known issue. You should see it back later today or tomorrow at latest.

I'm still facinated by what value people see in this. All it does is chew through your battery quicker!

'Tis of some value in remote areas. I have formerly used cellinfo to ascertain which tower I was getting marginal service from and decide which windowledge to leave the phone on.

Back when vodafone GSM was crap here it was somewhat useful since if I had kumeu as the cell ID I know that I couldnt use it till it changed to greenhithe or glenfield, but then they put the site across the harbour in and then put GSM on it and I even have signal in the basement now, which neither other network has (well there is some 2degrees GSM)

I'd really like to see this as an option on 3G services so I can select the best site for my BB wireless....  Currently I only know my antenna is pointing in the right direction for a strong signal, but I keep getting breathed off(?) the site/sites it can see.

For me in this situation being able to identify and optimise for a selected site would be usefull.

And I thought it only used battery quicker if you didnt have the menu option for it so it constantly recived it, the menu option for cell ID was only recieveing it after changing site to save battery?
