When I use 2degrees any texts I receive from my fiancee in the Philippines arrives many, many times. This also happens if I use a Vodafone SIM card. If I use a Telecom SIM it does not happen. I have been in contact with 2degrees but their customer service is appalling. I have now for the last two months had to pay 20c per txt on Telecom instead of 9c on 2degrees. I am stunned at their toyal lack of concern, Does anyone else have this problem?

International text are one of the issues with 2degrees because of the various inter-telco agreements, but usually it means that you have issues with getting them if you've ported from Vodafone. (Did you port to 2degrees from VF by any chance?)

Given that the problem also happens on Vodafone that would very strongly suggest that the issue is not with 2degrees at all and (logically) therefore out of there control. (And given they are a minnow-of-a-minnow of a Telco they'd have no clout at all at trying to get an overseas company to fix an issue, if that is where the fault is)

And I have to say that the only time I have had to contact 2degrees customer support they were very friendly and very helpful.

Also, sounds like you only have one phone that you keep swapping the sim around in. Logic would be to get a second cheapie phone for the XT SIM and use the to communicate with you fiance and use the 2degrees SIM for everything else - or get a dual SIM phone.

So this happens on 2degrees *and* Vodafone. It seems to be a problem with the gateway provider, not a 2degrees problem.

My suggestion is to ask the send to log a fault with their telco.

Good luck with that.

Thank you for your replies.

Sun Network in the Phils have checked their system and say it is an issue at NZ end of things. NZ is not sending back a signal to Phils to say txt arrived here so system in Phils thinks it has not been delivered and sends it again.

I have no issue with the politeness of @degree staff on phones...their tech service is the one that is poor.

No I won't get another phone. The one I have was working fine on 2D  until this started to happen about 2 months ago. As it does not happen with her txts when I receive them on XT it give greedance to Sun Networks claim that the issue is in NZ.

Also, in Palmerston North 2degrees use Vodafone cell sites so maybe it is Vodafone who are the culprits.

Ah... You left out this important bit of information before. Now things are clearer. I'd take JohnR's offer and work with him to find what's causing the problem.

And again, please please please people when asking for help provide as much information as possible, even if you think is irrelevant. It's not.

I had her send one txt today. It arrived at 12.34p., 12.52pm, 12.58pm and 12.59pm. I then turned phone off as it was annoying. It would have gone on for ages if I left phone on.

I would suggest you send JohnR a PM (email button in forums). And provide the times, and both cellphone numbers from there. Ie sender and receivers numbers.

philnz847: their tech service is the one that is poor.

Yes, indeed, I can understand why John left GZ for a while...

FWIW it sounds to my poor tech service opinion like it's neither 2degrees nor Vodafone at fault here. The fact that it doesn't work properly on 2 of 3 networks says to me that someone has a missing SS7 route from NZ back to the Philippines. Telecom use SMPP for a lot more of their international SMS connectivity for historical (CDMA) reasons so SS7 routing issues would not affect them.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's Sun's problem either; if you read my post on how SMS works you will see that it could be any one of a lot of carriers in between.

I hope you can find someone who knows what they're talking about to sort it out for you.

Hi.

I guess you work for 2d.  There has been no feedback on this issue from 2d apart from "we are looking into it".  That is the reason for my comment re poor service.  After all this time a bit more communication would be appreciated.

Do you think 2d would like to subsidise me the 21 extra cents per txt I have to pay because they can't supply a non repeating service?

I bet if Fonterra used 2d exclusively for txts and this was happening to them it would be fixed by now.

Why are you having to pay more to send SMS's on XT if the issue is one of receiving SMS messages?

Do SMS's originating from 2d or Vodafone not work either? If so that's an entirely different issue to what you mentioned above.

Not sure why I was sent an example for a number on the 2 degrees network. How long ago was this issue reported to 2Degrees?
