Look at this. $10 per month  and they give you 240 minutes per month to call Chinese landlines and mobiles.

Let me guess why we are paying much more here. Mobile termination rates at 17 cents per minute.

Vodafone NZ have a similar offer for Supa prepay and is a addon

$12 for 120 anytime minutes and 50 TXTs

The minutes are to mobiles and landlines

China
Hong Kong
India
Malaysia
Singapore
Thailand

Also $2 for 60 minutes calls to landlines in 30 countries you just need to be on Supa prepay no addon required

I think ajw's point is that it is insane for it to be cheaper to call China than it is to call locally.

Yeap, Mobile Termination Rates are bad for customers.

In a similar vane, in the USA on holiday I bought a net10 Nokia 1600 for US$30 to beat vodafone roaming charges. It came pre-loaded with $30 credit. Cost 10c/min to call mobiles or landlines anywhere in the USA and cost 15c/min to call land lines back here in New Zealand (the only hook was that it cost 10c/min to receive calls on the phone).

Summary - it was cheaper to call NZ landline from my cell in the USA than from my vodafone cell in New Zealand.
