was looking at steam website last night and noticed here:

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/

that slingshot has a steam server. anyone have experience of how good it is?

from reading this forum slingshot generally don't seem awesome, but with a steam cache I imagine speeds would/should be quite good for anything bought through there. Anyone use it and can report on how good it is?

I didnt realise they had one either. I wonder if its zero rated to there customers?? Also notice recoil have a filtered steam cache, wonder how you would get content through them?

Steam content mirrors just serve game install files and updates.

When you need to download a game in Steam finds the closest server(s) to you that has the content and starts downloading. Note: not all servers have all conent.

Slingshot have run a steam content mirror for awhile now, if you're on Slingshot you should be able to get decent speeds from it. It's filtered to Slingshot customers only, so no use if you are not on slingshot.

Speed from it will of course depend on your line rate, backhaul congestion, handover link congestion at the time.

The content server isn't zero-rated (nothing is), but it goes like stink as long as the files are actually on it.
I get line speed downloading from it, about 1.2 MByte/s.

Recoil one is Xnet only (and last I knew, it had little in the way of content).
What I'd like to know is what the Affinity one serves. (Only their game servers?)

Unlike Recoil, the Slingshot one, has a lot of content.
