Orcon are offering free addons on new plans until 31 March at http://www.orcon.net.nz/bestdealever.

Vodafone Unlimited for $120/month gets me 30GB data, homephone, unlimited national calling, wiring, and free MySky.  Most months I double my data for an extra $30 (grrrr, children), so $150/month with 60GB.

Orcon is offering 55GB data, homephone, unlimited national calling and wiring for $115/month.  So almost twice the data of the VF Ultimate plan for $35/month less, although no MySky.

I am tempted!

Any recent switchers from VF to Orcon on here that can comment on their experience?

I currently pay telecom $102 for Total home 10GB with nationwide calling, I elect to pay an additional $10 for a extra 10GB, so I pay Telecom $112 for nationwide calling and 20GB data.

As per the Orcon website,  I can signup to the Bronze plan, with 30GB data and add on unlimited nationwide calling, and all I will pay is $96?

Thats a saving of $16 per month, $192 per year, Am I missing something apart from the 12 month contract?

Anyone able to offer a comparison over Telecom Broadband? Are speeds on Orcon similar?

Orcon doing a 12 month contract?
How odd. it was only a few months ago they were talking about how they *don't* do contracts because they are so confident people won't want to leave.

Still, contract or not it is a pretty good deal.

I get a feeling that it's justified for this deal only, as they are effectively giving you a $20-25/mo discount on Bronze w/ Landline & 30GB.

I'd imagine you can still sign up sans contract.

You can, just checked. If you sign up as you normally would then there are still no contracts. Looks like a contract applies just to this 'best deal ever' thingy.

Sounded quite good, I'm with Orcon, but it would be $10 less for 15GB more per month. I checked the T&Cs and it says:

"In order to be eligible for the Promotion your household must have received the relevant Orcon mailer which contains details of the offer under the Promotion and the signup process for your household address."

So I guess it's only for certain people :( It asked me for my phone number and still let me sign up though, hmmm...

Is peak time performance decent on Orcon now? Going by that mega thread on GZ not to long ago there were still significant issues.

Yes this is what I'd like to know as well as it's what made me leave them in the first place about 20 months ago, but this is a pretty good deal and I'd look at switching back if those performance issues have disappeared.

So can anyone just sign up?

"All" it is, is a bonus 25GB on top of the usual 5GB Bronze cap (or one of the other extras). Sounds good to me, though.

give it  go, then you'll know! Smile  I can't; I'm already an Orcon customer. (I switched from ClearNet after their CEO made air-head comments about broadband, along the lines of Bill Gates's famous "640K ought to be enough for anybody". Orcon (Kordia, their parent) were rumoured to be planning a second trans-pacific cable at the time -- much more forward-looking. And indeed the second cable is going ahead.

Re peak-time speed, I guess it varies from place to place -- but they do have an upgrade programme, and they are working it. I'm in Hawera and in the last few months things have improved dramatically.

Greg.

I'm with Orcon too, but when I put in my Orcon phone number it still took me through to the next step.  I didn't go all the way through the process though.

I'd be willing to sign up for 12 months to get an extra 25GB a month.
