Just thought I'd rant here... how hard is it for a telecommunications provider to simply provide all their plans upfront? Instead they want me to go via their address checker which won't work for me without a valid number as I'm wanting naked DSL anyway.

They've most probably just lost themselves a potential customer... don't be flash, just provide the customer with the info they want! Even a google search of their site turns up nothing.

It does suck, but they have to figure out what network you are on before giving prices, and if any rural charges apply etc.

If they put a $50 plan there, and then when people tried to apply were billed $70 for what they consider the same thing, they would complain. Not giving upfront prices seems to be the norm among ISPs

not really. Telecom, Vodafone, Telstra, provide easy access to all their prices, and they are the 3 biggest ISPs i believe.

but yes, the reason they do it is that your pricing depends on where you live. rather than make you check against a map much easier for them (they think) to just get you to put in your number and then they know what prices to quote you.

Orcon - phone number entry on the homepage to see pricing

vodafone - some pricing but an address entry above it, and the prices drop if you put an address in within the red zone.

other ISPs dont have the differentication between their own netwrok and wholesaled stuff so there is little reason to check first, I am not sure why telstraclear are not discounting on their own network - do they even use it for residential customers?

You only need an address correct and any phone number would do for checking nakedsl prices.

Slingshot in my area sell access to two networks, telecoms (includes nakedDsl) and their 'Better Network' which has no Naked DSL.

Yes I would be nice to have a page with all their pricing, but it would be information overload as you would see the same plans with two different sets of prices.

And Naked DSL is $82 for HS/HS 25GB

maybe it is off-topic a bit, but I signed up with Slingshot two years ago to get the free traffic between 01:00 - 07:00; Now I got a letter that the cost goes up and the free traffic applies only between 04:00-08:00 or something like that.

typical for most NZ services, "if you don't like it then get lost!" rule apply. Whatever contract you might have with them, it is valid only for as long as they want it to be valid.

While this may be good for some people I can see it'll simply create confusion for others. People don't understand the difference between LLU/wholesale connections and urban/rural naked pricing. Asking for a phone number and/or address is quite simply the best way of determining pricing.

Or... A well designed website explaining the differences in pricing and networks with an _optional_ address/phone number search field allowing the customer to clarify in case they do not understand.

Sounds like the best plan to me.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Either way it's done people aren't going to be happy with it or find it confusing.

I'd rather see all plans regardless of the service whereas others would only want to see what's relevant.

There really needs to be a combination of the two, where you see everything, then things disappear after you've put an address in, with explanations of why.

Telecom cant supply the claytons broadband anymore, so if an ISP was to sell it to you, they would be paying for a full speed upstream and then throttling it on their network to 128k, which is just stupid.

I wouldn't say that at all., it's a service at a speed that can no longer be sold as it can no longer be bought.

If you have issue with the plan you're going onto please call into the call centre, they should be able to help you out.

Slingshot are bad. I was with them for about 2 years, all going fine, then we rang up because we wanted to change the plan. They told us they we were on an outdated plan and we were getting charged like +$20 for no point, they didn't even think to tell us about this.
