What does this mean for prepay users?
Can we topup $25 via our phones, or online, and get flybuy points?
Or only in a physical 2degrees shop?
The details are a bit vague.

Prepay only if you buy from their retail store (or I guess Noel Leeming/Shell - other flybuy retailers).

Should be for prepaid customers who top up their credits online as well.

The problem may well be with prepaid customers, is that 2D (or probably any Telco) don't keep name and address information for the customer. So they cannot attach a Fly Buys number to the account since they don't know who you are.

Without knowing how the 2D system works, to provide Fly Buys to prepaid would either require:

1. Each time you topped up you entered your Fly Buys number (that is a bit tedious) but would work from the Fly Buys point of view since it's the same as swiping your card at a store. The store only sends Fly Buys the numbers and points (or value of transaction) each week/month. Then 2D would send Fly Buys a file each period containing Fly Buys numbers and number of points (or value of the transaction)

2. They ask prepaid customers to provide name and address details which are then entered into their billing system. Then each time you topped up, the points would go into your "account" and sent to Fly Buys. That might be a costly exercise from a systems point of view.

But agreed - it would be good.

I have 4 phones on 2D but only 2 on account. I have attached the FB number for them.

Yesterday when I topped up online at 2D there was a box to enter my Flybuys number. I did and then topped up. Will be interesting to see if a point appears on my next FB statement..

You won't get another points summary for 3 months. Just go online and check in a week.

Wouldn't you get them anyway if you purchased a top up voucher from NL.

Perhaps that's one of the reasons they don't offer Fly Buys on prepaid. You could potentially triple dip.

(1) Buy a $25 prepaid voucher using BNZ GlobalPlus card. Get Airpoints on the transaction
(2) Get Fly Buys on the Noel Leeming transaction which you can either redeem for Air Points or if you have the new Fly Buys/Air Points card, get the Air Points directly
(3) Get Fly Buys on the 2D voucher and get as (2)

Double dipping is pretty normal now - triple dipping might be not be acceptable for the merchants.

I don't see the triple dip there...

(1) Is not a FlyBuys offer, but an Air NZ one, so wouldn't count.

(2) "get the Air Points directly" is just a bit faster than getting the FlyBuys points and later doing a transfer. There's nothing else there...

Buying the voucher at Noel Leeming (earn points) then apply to an account (earn points again) would be double dip.

Well it's moot now since apparently Noel Leeming don't sell 2D vouchers.

But if they did it would be a triple dip.

You could always transfer Fly Buys to a Globalplus card as miles as a reward.

But now they have a new AirPoints/Fly Buys card. When you swipe this card you get miles directly into your Air Points account and of course AirNZ is paying for them. - so points #1

But if you purchase the coupon with a AirNZ Global Plus Visa card that amount goes into your Visa balance and each month contributes to Air Miles also. Note both these transactions are independent of each other. So points #2. You can always get this reward without swiping your Fly Buys card.

Then finally if Noel Leeming sold 2D vouchers, then when you redeemed the voucher with 2D you would get your third allocation of points/miles so points #3.

I don't see it as a problem for the program participants (if it was offered by Noel Leeming and worked as you described).

The would be similar to people buying Air NZ tickets with their GlobalPlus credit cards (dip #1), through a travel agent that gives Flybuys points that can be converted to Airpoints later through the Air NZ/Flybuys card (dip #2), and then the customer also accumulating Airpoints when the flight is taken (dip #3)?

If they don't like this happening, well, too bad. They are the ones who decided to offer points in multiple ways.

Most shops won't give flybys on phone top ups, and gift cards iTunes cards etc. Part of transaction.

How ever can double dip if using bnz credit card, pay on that get points for it, then also get points shop offers as well on valid part transcation. (just used bnz credit card for flybuys example, get whatever reward is being offered by card plus flybuys.)

If purchasing 2 degrees top up at shell would points be applied in shop or when put top up code in phone, which means flybuy info needs to be kept requested at top up?

Just read web 2degrees web page, looks like it's only pay monthly customers. Doesn't mention anything about prepay.
