I have a Vodafone mobile, with an attached 0800 number that I use for my business. If you call either number my phone rings. 2degrees has much better value plans for what I want right now (2500 txts instead of 600, and 120+ minutes), and i'm considering switching. I'm happy enough with Vodafone they're just not flexible enough for me.

Can 2degrees migrate my 0800 number over? If not can something be done with call forwarding?

I'll call 2degrees some time, I was just curious if anyone could give me a heads up before I call.

We don't currently offer 0800 services, sorry.

Drat, oh well. I don't want to have two phones, maybe I can work something out with Vodafone to do forwarding, or maybe i'll have to stick with VF and change plans or something.

I believe that Vodafone will keep forwarding your 0800 number to your new 2degrees number (at a cost). We had a customer switch to 2degrees recently who was in this same boat. Otherwise you can port your 0800 number to a third party (e.g. WorldxChange) and do the forwarding from there.
Just need to weigh up the costs...

Your best bet would be to port the 0800 number to wxc and then set up a call forward. Will work out the cheapest I would think in both monthly cost and per minute rate.

Thanks guys. VF is very cheap for 0800 numbers, no monthly charge and 50c per minute incoming. My volume's pretty low, sometimes 5 minutes a month, sometimes 50, but rarely higher than that.

I called Vodafone, they have no on-account plans that include more than 600 txt's. Even when I said if they can't help me they may lose a customer they've had for eight years there's nothing they could do.

I'll post in the Vodafone forum to see if their marketing team can help me out, but i'm interested in the WxC/2deg option.

I am on 2degrees account and still have a Vodafone 0800 number. Works fine. I just pay Vodafone for any incoming 0800 calls.

I have a 0800 number with 2talk.co.nz. It costs me $10 a month. I have this number on their “locate me” service, so that it ring back to me home and also to my mobile. I find the 2talk.co.nz service brilliant and depending on my expected volume of incoming calls, and If know I’m going to be away from home for a few days, I then purchase the mobile 100 plan which give me 100 minutes of cell phone redirection for $10.

Thanks for the info Allan, that's interesting. WxC does 0800 numbers free, with just a per minute charge. I might give them a go.

They do have a minimum speed though of $7 per month, so keep this in mind, but still should be cost effective.

$7/month is fine. Then again maybe I can leave it at Vodafone and direct it to 2degrees without a monthly charge, i'll check that out too.

I'm still annoyed I have to change mobile companies just because Vodafone is so inflexible.
