Just had a thought about VOIP. I notice that my Orcon connection dies somestimes and requires a reboot of router to get it going again. It doesn't happen a lot say once or twice in a month. Moving ones Telephone onto a system like this makes me wonder how trustworthy is this. If the ADSL circuit goes down and no one notices then effectively your telephone system is down and if you are waiting for a call it would be a right pain. Is there any indication that Orcon will provide a more guaranteed service for those with the new phone system. If they are hoping to persuade people to move to non Telecom system of phones they will have to provide at least 5 9's reliability.
Questions
1. Do other Orcon users notice their ADSL stopping and require a reboot of router to get access again
2. Maybe I should set up some kind of ping check that could alert me if the system goes down. Anyone have an ideas about the best way to do this. I dont really want to leave my PC running just so I can check circuit and then even if I did how would I generate an alert with no network?
