I live in South Hamilton where there is mobile broadband reception but I don't use it as I have Wi-Fi at home. However, when I travel into the city my iPhone stays on Vodafone's network and I can't use my broadband data pack without manually switching to 2degrees. This is very frustrating as I often need fast access to the internet and if I need to manually connect it takes longer. I have spoken to 2degrees about this, they asked for my name, phone model and number. I provided these but have had no response. Help!

They have not locked out the Vodafone towers in Hamilton as yet, I get the same problem where I have to manually force my phone onto 2degrees.

Try leaving cellular data off until you need it and see if you go to 2degrees instead of staying on Vodafone.

I think this is something that Iphones have problems with, even when on Automatic network.
See if there is any iOS updates available for you (dont go to the beta)

Mine will find the 2degrees network again by itself sometimes, even if I lock it to "2degrees" it will still find its way onto vodafone.

I'm guessing they are still doing network optimisation in Hamilton

Are you using an application that would be constantly using data on the way to town?

You could try leaving the phone on automatic network selection and then turning on airplane mode and turn it off again a few seconds later which is basically forcing the phone to do a network search which should connect to 2degrees coverage before Vodafone if available.

Let me know how it goes.

As far as I'm aware, no applications are using data on the way into town. When I toggle airplane mode it reconnects to Vodafone. I have to manually switch carriers.

Does anyone know what the progress is with locking out Vodafone? The problem still persists.

Hey Josh, try installing '2x Battery' app. It turns off data when the screen is off and and turns it on again at 15 min intervals to keep apps up to date etc. Remember to turn on the option to enable it while roaming. It may help your battery, but I've also spoken to people who say it helps with the problem you describe.

Are you sure this is for iPhone? I've looked on the App Store and Cydia but I can't find it...

Maybe if you just force it to always chose 2degrees all the time?
I always have problems when my phone switches from vodafone roaming in rangiora and then back to 2degrees in christchurch, with texts not coming through etc, I don't know.
