So my sister has just bought an Iphone 4 from the UK, guy in shop told her it was unlocked and would work with all networks,it was with the THREE network in the UK.

She has tried a telecom XT sim and seems to work! However she really wants it on 2degrees..

We have tried the settings here:

http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/iphone

No success, shows no service, is there anyway possible to get this working? Or would vodafone and 2degrees be on different bands and not work with an iphone from the uk or is another unlock or something needed?

Thanks for any help, kinda an iphone novice and trying to help my sis.

When you say no service do you mean no data or no service even for making calls?

As far as I know you should have no problems. I brought my 3GS with me from the UK (albeit not from Three network but that shouldn't make a difference) and all worked fine. My iPhone 4 was bought overthere though

I believe no service to even make a call.

Are you in a 2degrees native area or are you in one using Vodafone but with a 2degrees sim?

And of course, I didn't think of the obvious question first. Is the 2degrees sim already enabled and working in another phone? I'm guessing you'll have problems here as its a microsim and you can't try that in many phonesapart from the iPhone

So we tried sim, seems fine in another phone.

We got told today that the iphone is locked to a British network until apple brings out new software? Not sure if truth or not?

With the 2 degrees micro sim it comes up as "sim invalid".

One of my sisters friends "who knows a lot about iphones" lol.

So the British store lied that it was unlocked and we need to find a way to unlock it?

If the phone is locked there is no way a XT SIM would work.

Try restoring it in iTunes. If it was originally locked and then unlocked officially through a carrier, you need to restore it to change the baseband firmware. The provider unlocks that ecid with Apple's server so to complete the unlock you need to restore it.

That said though, it doesn't make sense for a Telecom sim to work but not another provider. Out of interest does a Vodafone sim work in it?

Ive got a friend with a US 4 and a UK 3GS, I think you need to do a Jailbreak to unlock?
