Does anyone have a solution to this issue...

I have 2 Degrees spend control set to $3.

When that limit is reached (e.g. through Voicemail charges. Directory calls etc) it stops me making calls (even though I have plenty of bonus and free minutes left)

As the red dialogue box states in the screenshot below, I should still be able to use my remaining free minutes etc, regardless of having reached my Spend Control limit.

I have set up my Mother & Sister on completely separate 2 degrees $39 / Pay Monthly plans and set low Spend Control limits. They have had exactly the same issues, which makes me think many people using S.C. must face this.

I have had countless conversations with 2d (over a 12month period) and have no resolution yet... They either reset it there (which means I have to ring up and go on hold each time it happens), or say I need to remove the battery and restart (didn't work last time).

I am keen to know:
1) Has anyone found a reliable solution to this issue
2) How many others have this issue
3) Is there some reason it is too difficult to fix

Forgive me for saying so, but that does not sound right. You will be able make calls that can be paid for out of minutes as long as you have minutes left. That's the way I built it.

You're forgiven Smile, but I have been through this process several times on my phone (Vodafone 845) and my Sisters & Mothers phones (Ideos U8150's - as recently as today). I phoned 2d and helpdesk reset Spend Control and she could call again.

Their reset didn't wipe the Spend Control, or change the fact that the limit was reached, when viewed on "Your 2degrees"

When trying to call using free minutes, a message is received saying something like "You are unable to make this call as you have reached your credit (or spend control) limit"  (or something to that effect).

This issue is real, and is has been experienced on all 3 phones, on all 3 separate accounts., on multiple occassions that I have set up (I must be the common factor... or Huawei... or 2deg...)

OK, PM me your number and I'll look into. I'm not saying there's not a problem, I'm just saying it's not spend control.

It works like this: in the IN, your account has a wallet. The wallet contains 'balance types'; these are your NZ Minutes, Bonus Minutes, Broadband Data, cash etc. For postpay, the cash balance is allowed to go negative (whereas it stops at $0.00 for prepay).

For any given chargeable service, we select a 'balance type cascade' which is an ordered list of all the balance types that can be used to pay for the call. When a postpay subscriber calls an NZ number, the cascade is NZ Minutes, Bonus Minutes, cash.

Spend Control works by saying that cash can only go to -$X. It is precisely the same mechanism as for prepay, except $X can be less than $0.

But as long as you have NZ Minutes and or Bonus minutes left, your cash (and spend control) doesn't enter into it. Spend Control is only considered when you've used up all the minutes or you're calling somewhere that you can't use minutes to pay for (e.g. international calls).

That's why I say that doesn't sound right: if this really is an issue then something else is wrong, not spend control.

So, send me the number(s) you are having issues with, and some examples that you think were failed because of spend control, and I will sort it out.
