I am currently in Melbourne attempting to roam using my 2degrees sim. For some reason I am unable to connect to any of the Australian mobile networks.

I thought roaming should work automatically! Am I missing something?? Any help would be much appreciated.

Btw - I have an android phone if that makes any difference.

Cheers.

Are you a Prepay or Postpay customer?

If Postpay did you confirm roaming was active before leaving NZ?

The OS a of phone, android , iOS , windows mobile has nothing to do with roaming it's a network feature not OS

According to this - http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/why-2degrees/roaming/pricing - roaming should be enabled by default. It 'should just work'.

On your phone under Settings - Wireless & Network - Mobile Networks - Network Operators do you see any network to connect to?

Reading the OP sounds like they are trying a manual network selection

I'm a prepay customer.

Nothing happens when I let the phone try and connect automatically. I can see telstra, vodafone au and Optus networks, but when I try and manually connect to a network I get an error message (I think it just says "unable to connect, try again later").

You are best to log a ticket with 2Degrees support back here in NZ

Telecom NZ International had a huge outage on signaling today, which cut off roaming to lots of carriers (including us) in lots of countries. It has just been restored in about the last 30 minutes. I am in Sydney right now and have confirmed it is ok again, though slow.

I'm offline here in Melbourne on my XT SIM. Rang the Telecom roaming Helpdesk who said there was a fault but have logged a ticket for me.

Looks like TNZI are having issues again this morning. My MO is failing again after working last night. With TNZI out I would expect XT roaming to be affected too. Possibly even some Vodafone roaming; I'd expect TNZI to do at least some international signaling for Vodafone but I don't remember for sure.

Vodafone NZ subscribers roaming in AU will not be impacted as we have our own direct links,

Just in the office now doing some health checks on sytems

Would text messaging between NZ and AU be also effected by this issue (not roaming texts, just between 2degrees and AU networks)?

Thanks for the info salty. Any idea when the issue is likely to be resolved? Has been pretty frustrating having no mobile coverage for the last couple of days!

Yes, that also uses the TNZI signaling network.

Probably not as frustrating as being the poor bugger(s) that has to fix it, but yeah, it is quite annoying.
