So I'm currently on an Orcon+ plan.

My line stats are as follows :

Line mode:ADSL2+Maximum line rate:8428 kbps (downstream) / 1200 kbps (upstream)Noise margin:13.1 dB (downstream) / 17 dB (upstream)Line attenuation:25 dB (downstream) / 11.2 dB (upstream)Output power:19.9 dBm (downstream) / 12.2 dBm (upstream)
Now with Adsl2+ shouldn't the sync rates be higher?
We had an issue with the alarm slowing us down (to unbearably slow) but it's been bypassed now.
Anyway I mention this as we tested the internal equipment as well as the internal wiring and link to the exchange.
I'm about 1.8-2Km Away from the exchange and my attenution reflects this.
So my question is : Orcon use a 6dB Noise margin profile by default (correct?), so how can I go about requesting a profile for my 12-13dB connection?

Appreciate any input on the matter.

Try asking Orcon.

Alternatively, get a modem that allows you to alter this default setting (not many do).

I think the speed adjusts on the fly depending on your router. When my line had a lot of noise, the Linksys WAG200G slowly raised the SNRM up to 20dB ish, so I synced at 7Mbps or so, but now the line's clear again and I'm back to 12dB at much higher sync rate.

The other router I had was a dynalink 1025W which I was able to change the SNRM manually with dmt v8.07 so it is doable, just going to take a lot of effort to track down the right gear.
